Gran Canaria

    My Mother and her Sister are off to Gran Canaria on Sunday.

    They will be staying in Maspalomas.

    Has anyone anything interesting to recommend that they could do.

    Just a nice shopping area / market / places to go for a walk etc

    GC is being done to death on Boards at the moment!

    For shopping, the Yumbo center and Faro II are quite good. Faro II is in Maspalomas and Yumbo is just inside the main resort. There is pretty good shopping in Las Palmas too if you fancy taking a bus out.

    As for things to do, if they're looking for quiet, Maspalomas is the right place, but it's only €6 in a taxi if they want a change of pace. There is a market on twice a week in the municipal market in Maspalomas and it's your average resort market with knock-off designer gear, traditional Canarian crafts and souvenirs and loads of rubbish stuff.

    There is a promenade from Maspalomas to Playa del Ingles and it makes for a nice stroll in the evening.

    A little further afield is Mogan, 30 minutes by bus, which has a nice little beach and a marina. It's a nice place to spend a day.
