Im a tad bit confused on what direction to take with my training! My current fitness regime consists of running, Astro football, and come cycling.

    Height - 6ft
    Weight - 75kg (I think)

I have been members of a few gyms over the years, but was looking for something with more of a group dynamic which would hopefully make it easier to remain consistent and motivated and to see real improvements in both my fitness and strength + some size increase. hopefully a couple of kilos of lean mass.

So thats why crossfit looks appealing to me. my question is will crossfit fufill these goals, or is general body toning and increase in fitness the most I can expect from working out regularly from crossfit?

I don't know much about any of this stuff really but look at the fitness logs and look for one by gabgab - he has some photos there of how he looked before and after 2 months going to crossfit.
Maybe you should check out their website also as there is quite a lot of info on there

Gabgabs change over a couple of months is pretty impressive! I have had a good look on the website.. It seems like a pretty tough workout. Have you been before Littlefriend?

yeah but I am doing a few private sessions w/ Colm before I brave an actual class so I can't give tell you how hard or easy a class is. I am a) a girl b) very small c) very unfit and d) very weak so things can only get better right.
Drop Colm a pm - he's not pushy and he'll answer anything you need to know. He seems to work about 20 hours a day though so you might have to wait a day or so before a getting a reply.

    Might see you there sometime.

If you have never lifted weights, or haven't done any resistance based training in a long time then of course it's going to help you build muscle. It'll also make you fit.

Are the other avenues I would personally explore...? Yup. But Crossfit seems to have worked decently enough for anyone who's stuck to it for long enough.

Any exercise will build muscle mass to some degree. The question is how much do you want to build and how do you want to end up looking? Check out the crossfit website here and have a look at some of the guys. Compare that with a bodybuilders website and a runners website etc. Find the shape/look you like. Copy workouts. Repeat.

    Hey,

I find it great, building lean mass in my limited knowledge of it is about lifting heavy, and a focus on diet. I find crossfit great because of the following:

1)On a quick workout, there is a competitive element to it but no ego's involved

2)On a heavy one, you can have a few people there and they are all egging you on and encouraging you to get it done, as they know what its like, regardless of the weight you're doing

3)The instruction is great, a constant focus on form,

I would suggest going to one, seeing what you think of it and taking it from there, and if you have more of a focus on cardio currently try to organise something against the clock with Colm,

Its not the only way but it really helped me grind out some extra work
