Does anyone know if the Contract with Vodafone is tied to the phone number?

i.e. Could I port the number to O2, for example, and keep the contract on a new number which Vodafone would give me ?

You can move between any of the networks and keep your number.

I know that, my question was regarding the contract - in this scenario, for example, I will end up with 2 phones, one of which I can foist onto work...

From o2 experience, the contract is tied to the no.

You would be able to put a new number onto your account though, and then change the ownership of the old no onto the work account though. That should get the result you want.

Contract is tied to the number - you can put another number on the account, but that would have it's own contract...

Hmmm... what exactly were you trying to do?? move a number to a different account?? or moving it from a different network?? cos there shouldn't be 2 bills for the same month for the same number??

    That Actually happened to me!
I moved from a personal acount to a business account and got billed twice for 2 months.
Messy but got it sorted after a few calls and a heap of free line rental :)

i bought a black nokia n95 serie from carphonewarehouse on bill with a new number, after 10 days later i wanted port my ready to go number in too my new bill plan and cancel the other new number, so they said in the shop no problem, and they have send fax to them, so my ready to go ported and i trow other sim to bin, but after they did keep billing for the new number for 3 months, i did contact them after first bill, and vodafone werent helpfull to me on the phone and recommended me to go to back to shop, we send another fax, but didnt solve they sent another bill, after all they said they are sorry and they will refund the money for the line not used, in 21 days, but two months has past no refund, if i go to court i will get it, but pain in the ass,
    vodafone pain in the ....

Yeah - that's why I avoid contract phones - after 7days you're locked in the 12/18 month contract... which is on the number!! If you'd just ported the number you wanted straight on all that messing wouldn't have happened... again, that's why avoid contracts like the plague!! :P :D

bill phone suppose to be cheaper then the ready to go, but however i keep paying 60 euros a month :)and for my plan i pay 20 euro per month and get 50 munits, so 40 euro i pay extra for talks, with ready to go i used to get 40 euro top up was enough for a month, when my 12 month is up, i will start using ready to go again, :p

Hmmm - well, generally speaking, billpay is cheaper - sounds like you may be on the wrong tariff - you should maybe give your provider a call (vodafone / o2 / whatever) and ask for an "optimisation" (basically, to reccommend the best tariff) :)
