high heels & pain!

    hey there,

I'm just looking for some advice on getting used to wearing high heels.

Basically, i'm very short and love high heels. i have loads of pairs but i only ending up wearing them once or twice cause i end up crippled with pain (even with party feet, insoles, heel grips!)and end up not enjoying the night.

is there any magic trick to help you get used to the pain?

one of my mates just says drink past the pain, but im not really a big drinker...

another says wear shoes with straps as they're easier to walk in (although i am short, so straps with skirts would just shorten my short legs even further). im in between sizes like a 3.5 so the straps thing makes sense as i usually get a four and am clinging on to them like a pigeon. i know clarks do half sizes but they're not great for sexy going out shoes.

i have also read that the more expensive the shoe is the more comfortable it is, the most ive ever spent is €80 in office. can anyone recommend 'comfortable' brands?

i read before that sjp wears ankle weights around the house and this helps build up some leg muscle so you carry weight in your legs rather than feet (or something??)

anyways any advice would be great!

    thanks!

wear them around the house for a few days before you're going out to get used to em, and then when you do wear them out, get taxis everywhere, dont walk any more than you have to

One interesting thing is your arches. They hugely affect you when you wear heels.

I have had terrible feet problems and found 2 really really comfortable and nice pairs of heels in Marks & Spencers... I got them in the summer... oh actually I got 4 pairs coz I have 2 pais of wedges from there but they're all really comfy!

hmm we have wooden floor all over the house and my mam goes mad that heels dent it and make noise!
i could practice outside maybe :)

Ye, You need to break them in by wearing them around the house.. or wherever before wearing them out. Do you have dopped archs??

It usually is true that the cheap shoes cause alot more pain then expensive ones.. but then again.. I had a BEAUTIFUL pair of Guess stilletos.. and they were nearly the death of me! :(

Youre just gonna have to keep searchin for a nice pair that fit your feet well and are comfortable.. good luck! :D

the key is flat shoes! wear flat shoes on your way to the night out and put on your heels when u arrive at the bar etc. then when u are headed home put on your flat shoes again! i do this every night i go out and its a lifesaver. sometimes just the walk from the bus/dart etc to the bar/club etc is all it takes for your feet to be sore for the whole night. only started doing it last year but its a good call!

Please don't wear ankle weights around the house - you will do damage to your joints. Seriously.

I have dropped arches, would that be a big problem for high heels? I'm the same as the OP, they literally cripple me.

I am looking for advice also as every time I wear heals, the balls off my feet feel like they are on fire => pure agon & cannot walk properly!! And once it starts it stays there for at least a day, even when I have slippers/runners on...

Any tips on how to combat this??

One thing to consider here may be your weight. If you are on the heavy side, then you could be placing extra stress on your feet. Apologies if this is not relevant to you.

Smaller feet bear more pressure (pressure = force/area) so consider shoes that have a larger sole area (wedges or platforms), this should help ease the pressure.

Additionally, I would advise wearing heels more frequently. Even low heels on a daily basis will help you get used to wear higher heels.

The only heels I can wear are wedges with soft straps around the ankle and platform at the front part aswell so theres not so much pressure on the ball of my foot. To stop straps / shoes making my short legs looking stumpy, I only buy light neutral colours (beige cork). They sort of blend in with your leg and give the illusion of them being longer and slimmer! Comphy, look good and go with everything.

Yes dropped arches would mean that if would be uncomfortable for your foot to conform to the shape of heels, so that it would hurt not just at the ball of your foot, but from your arch towards your heel also.

I find that more expensive shoes tend to hurt less, though for me, expensive is Office.
