Holiday Essentials

I'm a 35 year old mum, going on holidays to the sun next month. Every year I seem to bring far too many clothes (not to mention shoes) and end up wearing the same old reliables.

Does anyone have a magic formula for the "capsule holiday wardrobe" ??

Just pack the "same old reliables" ;)

Leave out the 'just in case...." items.

Flip flops, sandals, wedges. White bra, black bra. Denim shorts/capris, beach shorts, three bikinis/swimsuit, sarong, two skirts, two dresses, two linen trousers, couple of fancy tops, a few tanks. Day bag, evening bag. Sun glasses. Sorted!

    Thanks Twee.

I tend to get seduced by bits and pieces in the shops. Determined to stick to the basics this year.

I was the same, but I just think about what I actually wear every day when I'm away, and it's generally the same things but different colours lol.

Dolly, I am the exact same, bring tonnes of stuff (different outfit for every night) and end up wearing approx half of it. I would say try and cut down on the evening wear, you never wear as much of it as you think you will.

Also limit your shoes to 1 or 2 pairs of day flip flops, 1 pair of flat sandles (semi dressy) and one pair of 'suit all' wedges. That should tide you over.

that's my plan for this year and I'm sticking to it (I swear...):D

Four pairs of shoes? That's nuts!! Shoes take up a lot of space. I say pack a dressy pair and a pair of flip flops, then wear over a pair of comfy sandals.

OK that's still three pairs I realise, but it's more than enough! And if you had sturdy/comfy enough flip-flops, then you probably wouldn't have need for the sandals and could just have two pairs.

I'm really not in a position to advise you on this - on my last holiday I completely forgot to pack knickers:eek: Seriously not one pair...

    So.... dont forget your knickers..:p

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post.

The shoe thing always annoys the hell out of me. I bring far too many and for the last 2 years have ended up wearing (day and nigh) a pair of slipperseque flip flops that I got free in a magazine!! Almost all standard flip flops irritate my feet which is a nuisance.

Will try to take on board all the tips re clothes and will leave at home the one off items that cant be mixed and matched. That's the plan anyway.

    Will also try to remember the undies . . . . .
