Dunno if i'm in the right forum with this question!

I am thinking of pursuing a course in beauty therapy, massage etc but I've no experience in it or where to start really! :o Can anyone tell me if that would go against me if I wanted to start a course? Also can anyone recommend a good course in it, doesn't matter what type it is i.e. evening, distance etc. Thanks :)

Hi, dont think having no experenice going into the course would hinder you. I have a couple of friends that have done these courses and they just want to know that you have a intrest in them and wont drop out. There are loads of places out there offer beauty courses you will have to look around and find the best one that suits. the two I know of are full time and are in B.I.F.E and sallynoggin. Check out websites like nightcourses.ie and Qualifax.

My sister spent the last 10 years lecturing Radiography in england, gave it up 2 months ago to become a beauty therapist. She did a few courses over a year or so while she worked, now she has set up her own business, working from home. I think she is specalising in gel nails, , apparently its a part of the market that is not saturated.

Hi there. I'm a Beauty Therapist currently practicing in Australia. I can't recommend you any courses but what I can recommend is that you don't study via distance education as BT is not something you can do this competently through due to the practical components involved. You can't, for example, expect to do waxing or nails competently via correspondence.

But Beauty Therapy is so darn easy to do it's not funny. Like Australia, the Irish beauty industry is not regulated (ie. you don't need a licence) so, really, you don't have to do a formal course at all. Before I opened my own business, I attended college and did my Diplomas of BT, Nails and Massage Therapy because I wanted to lower my insurance premiums and work in a salon but, looking back, I can honestly tell you that the investment I made course wise I have a hard time justifying.

In hindsight, I'd probably go by the way of the Motherfunker's sister who did the odd course (eg. such as waxing) while she worked before setting up her own business.
