Right, looking at going away in early September, I've only once before done the package holiday deal (Rhodes, about ten years ago). This is just for the Mrs and me. We'd like the Spanish Med' coastline, not interested in hours of flying time.

Don't want skangers or screaming kids, just sun, sea and relaxing. All inclusive would be nice as we're sick of being stung wondering around the"charming" back streets looking for an authentic experience

    Any good ideas folks?

Would have to recommend Feurteventura is you want peace and quiet , sand sea etc - Hotel Riu Palace Tres Islas. Stayed there 2 years ago fully inclusive . Its situated right on the beach a few Kilometres from Corralejo . There is also another sister hotel The Riu Olivia Beach beside it . Tres Islas is more plush and the food is good . I have also stayed in the Olivia - its cheaper but also good ! Look them up on trip advisor or on the Riu site.

A taxi to Corralejo is about 5 euro so you have options if you do want the nightlife !

Thanks, but only interested in Spanish Med area. Not keen about flying past Africa to get to a piece of Spain...

  • Is there any particular reason you don't want to fly the extra hour? It's not like the Canaries are off South Africa!

By the Spanish Med coastline do you mean the east coast? Barcelona, Valencia etc? Or the Costa del Sol area?

Went to Mallorca (small island off the coast of Spain) for me hols a while back. All teh skangers go south of the island. North of the island was nice, stuff nearby, etc. Only downside was, cos of the lack of mountains, all drinkable water came in bottles.

We are sick of flying at this stage, did Maldives and Dubai last year and even Madrid earlier this year was enough time on a plane. So that's why we're rulling out the Canaries, Greece, Croatia etc.

Not bothered about where as long as Aer Lingus drop us off relatively close by and it's not Benidorm ;)

  • From what I've seen those 'all inclusive' things do tend to attract a high percentage of skangers and families with young kids. I'm not an expert on them but the few times I've gone down that route, the only options available for Spain were for the typical 'resorts' like Benidorm, Magaluf, Torremolinos, etc. I wouldn't go near any of them with a bargepole, tbh but it really depends on your tolerance for loud, drunken lager louts. The only place I thought wasn't a total hole was in Fuerteventura but that's off the list.

I used to live in Andalucia so I'd know some nice small beach towns, but I doubt you'd find any kind of package deal there because they're not very well known. The trouble is once a place gets well known it always turns into a hole :o Maybe if you went into a travel agent and asked what the options are? Just stay away from the Costa del Sol!!

Try northern spain, beautiful unspoilt beaches, great food, cheap hotels, nice people, no lager louts.

Spend a few days in Santiago then head north to the coast.
