    Hi,

Sorry for the post in advance but i am a little technically challenged :o

Got a new Dell laptop recently and all is grand but it has Works as opposed to Word as the word processor.

The thing is my GF wants to send CV's to agencies, potential employers etc... but im pretty sure that works wont be recognised as a file for them to open.

My qst is is it possible to download an old version of word or where would i go buy one?

Also, if a save the file as .doc when i have MS word viewer would the file open as normal when sent to somebody else in an email?

    Thanks,

    Jugs

Get Open Office - you can set it to save files in the old 'Word' format and anyone you send them to will be able to open them in Word.
It's free and it saves you messing around with Works and that weird new version of Word that won't let you look at files you created with it.

works is very similar to word 2.0

and most versions should be able to save as .DOC format

TBH CV's generally don't have many fancy features so almost any word processor with a spell checker should do.

Use which ever WP she is most comfortable with, just make sure she can save as word .DOC
doesn't matter which version as it's the same since 1997,
in the unlikely event someone can't read that (because they've been living under a rock) you could just cut/paste into the email or send as .RFT rich text format

The one thing not to do is send out CV's in DOCX format as used by office 2007. Many non-tech places won't be able to open and tech places will rolleyes.

There's a faster trunk of Open Office called Go-OO, optimised for faster running.
