There are posters who have stopped contributing to the SD&MA forum due to it being swamped with MMA.

I have been reading and posting on this forum since first joining boards and i have seen a lot of the comings and goings between both "sides" of the argument and to be honest there have been various comments from BOTH that would be less than stellar, a few thread invasions etc.

People need to learn to get along to go along and leave each other in peace. I have a small issue with some of the TMA guys that have actively posted on this forum portraying themselves as victims tbh.

I don't think SD&MA needs an MMA Subforum.

I think Sports needs an MMA Forum.

    Yeah yeah yeah!

Do you not think it makes sense to give MMA its own forum?

No, mma is just mixed martial arts, it should be kept in with the other martial arts. Why do you think it needs its own forum.

It's big enough to have it's own forum.

It's also a professional sport as opposed to most Martial Arts.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to offend anyone here as I am a huge TMA fan too.

    I have the perfect solution!

How about just have a "Being a D1ckhead" forum? That way, whenever anyone wants to be a d1ckhead, they can post in there and then everyone else can be left alone? Whether you're an MMA d1ckhead or a TMA d1ckhead, the d1ckhead forum is for you.

    D1ckhead.

But is what would be left big enough to have its own forum?
It's also a professional sport as opposed to most Martial Arts.

What does that mean? Amateurs do mma without any interference from the professionals all the time.

I think it would be a good idea.

MMA is huge and getting bigger, but all the other smaller arts seem to be obscured, and therefore they dont post as much and get more obscure.

I also think, the idea of "self defence" and "martial art" dont quite go together either in all cases. TBH Kendo aint really good for good self defence unless I have a big fook off sword with me :)

This victim mentality is ridiculous. There are a few idiots on the boards but if people are scared away from posting opinions about martial arts then maybe their opinions are shaky to begin with.

People reminisce about the good old days: "what is the best knife hand block defence when using korean kapkritsu from a 3rd kup left hand defence in a ninja suit". They really weren't that good. In terms of good old fashioned entertainment I think the best forum days were the early early TMA vs. MMA fights (back when i had too much time on my hands). They were truly fun.

We probably need more people to make outlandish claims. Either they're keeping their ki-balls beliefs to themselves or they just dont think that stuff anymore. Maybe a vindictive churlish part of me wishes they did...

i just fail to understand why TMA (seeing as we're using that term) posters are posting less as a result of the apparant MMA-UFC vs TMA imbalance.

if you feel there arent enough TMA discussions, why not start them yourself?

This forum has a vibrant mma/bjj/submission wrestling community and the mma/bjj/sw community is very vibrant itself. This just happens to be bit of a hub for mma/bjj/sw announcements. There is a big MMA show on in either Japan or america every few months/ weeks there are shows on in ireland every few months and there are a host of competitions and seminars. There is a lot to talk about! There just isn't much to talk about in other martial arts because there isn't much happening and the people involved use other methods to notify people about them. MMA and the internet go hand in hand.

It wasnt meant to be a MMA/TMA debate. The suggestion was for a seperate forum for fans to discuss non-local mma events, UFC Elitexc dream etc.

This only happens when some martial artist comes on making silly claims about there art-they are told the truth and dont like it, ie, kenpo is the best martial art for self defense, no its not.
and im only using Kenpo as an example, do it because you enjoy it, but not because its the most effective. and dont make claims like that and you'll be fine on here..

I don't believe that that's true in every case. I think sometimes a discussion will start about a topic, and it will be turned into a TMA vs. MMA debate - e.g. discussing multiple attacks or forms or something similar, and it will end up becoming an MMA thread as some people post on it ridiculing the impracticality of TMA's, and refusing to accept that there could be flaws in any MMA system (as there could be in any TMA system). This isn't specific to MMA people, just particularly endemic among the MMA evangelists (of which there are a great many).

what would you describe as a TMA, and its not only a board for MMA/BJJ sometimes i post here about daisy and daffodils and usually have good feedback, oh and last thing, you say you dont tend to post here because of the MMA/BJJ quantity on here, are they on all the boards in that case considering you have 36 posts in total on the site??

When I say I don't tend to post here, what I mean is that I've very active on a number of other martial arts forums, participating in discussions on many different aspects of martial arts. I don't participate in, or start these discussions here, because I don't believe they can happen here. I'm not actually 100% sure what you're trying to say here, as you're more than a little unclear. I'm guessing that you're trying to lend incredulity to my post by highlighting the small number of posts I have on boards.ie. I would argue that this lends strength to my argument - my post count is several orders of magnitude higher on other martial arts fora because I enjoy discussing martial arts - just not here. I've read so many of the threads on this forum that I don't see the point in starting my own and trying to discuss various aspects of martial arts training, because the evidence of how these threads generally turn out is there for all to see.

When I refer to TMA, in this particular context, I'm largely referring to most martial arts that aren't BJJ/MMA, i.e. other styles which don't get much of a look in here.

Ultimately, all of this doesn't affect me hugely. I read these boards a lot, and post very infrequently. I keep an eye out for seminars and events posted here that interest me. I keep up with threads that interest me. I simply wanted to agree with something that was said earlier, i.e. that a lot of non-MMA people don't post here, and to agree with the stated reasons for it. I realised that this discussion (both about the sub-forum, and about TMA/MMA/ANYMA stuff) was moot about three posts after it began.

I love the term MMA evangelical. :pac:

Whilst there might be plenty of people who just want to shot down what other people are going there are plenty more who simply want to debate/discuss it.It's the difference between simply debunking and genuine inquiry. I think a major problem is that the person defending their 'traditional' MA often mightn't be able to tell the difference between the two, since a lot of threads going to sh^te and the 'traditional' poster going off in a huff.

the fact you said you dont post on this board leads the mind to believe u post on other boards, you never said anything about other sites, i just made the point that that wasnt true regarding others boards, and plus i was just trying to get under your skin, i love arguements on here, they save me from being bored in work all day :p
