Golf Courses In Tralee

Hey folks, i was wondering if someone could offer some advice on a golf course in Tralee? My brothers wedding is coming up and he's not an out and out drinker, so i'm looking into a day of a few of us golfing instead with pints in Tralee afterwards. There seem to be plenty of great courses there, but the problem is our range in ability will be from good (14ish handicap) to very bad, as in people like myself who have only played maybe 6 or 7 times. Id like to book a place where we wouldn't be made feel to uncomfortable for not being top notch. Just anything a bit relaxed and not too challenging.

Really hope you guys can help,
    regards,
    Paul

I think there is a 9 holer called Kerry golf club or similar that might be suitable. Tralee golf club is good though and you generally find in course down the country that they are very welcoming and don't mind people who aren't too good. Their market is really the tourist market and generally not 'good golfers' asuch.

Tralee would be a real test , it's a great course but a little expensive I always thought.

There are a number of good/goodish courses around there that are much cheaper

    Killorglin/Gap of Dunloe/Killarney Race Course ( Ross I think ).

I only really know South Kerry , there may be more around Tralee , Castle Gregory for example has a links course but I have never played it.

I played tralee a couple of times last year and even though it is expensive it is a fantastic track. Actually got to play it in competition and was very reasonable but for straight green fees it is expensive. It would be a long day for a beginner though. Castlegregory is as good a 9 hole as you will get anywhere but again, being links, might be a bit tough for beginners. Should try these two out at some stage though. Ballyheigue wouldn't be too far from Tralee and has a nice 9 hole course overlooking the sea. Couple of years since I played it but there are some super holes there and very reasonable too. I would definitely recommend it for a group outing like you are having.

Yea that's a great place to start. Have a look at Ardfert and Castlegregory both 9 holes course's and close to Tralee. Ardfert been the easier of the two, but Castlegregory is that bit more scenic and the village has a few nice spots for pints afterwards.

Try the Dooks. Its a really nice links course but not a difficult as Tralee or Ballybunion etc. Its a few years since I was there but I found it to be a really friendly club and one of the most enjoyable links courses to play.
Green fees were very reasonable too if I remember correctly.

There was a lot of remodelling work done at dooks recently and it is a fine links course since that work has finished. Think it's around €60 at weekends

Yea the work they carried out was finished about a year ago and is a great improvement to the course, the green fee is 80euro akaik, but well worth it.
