Suggestions for relaxing but AWESOME 2 week holiday in September (for couple)

    I need some advice.

Thinking going 3rd week in September, ie. w/e of 12/13th.

With gf, so a couple, mid 20's, enjoy food+moderate drinkage, huge amounts of SEX

    Am thinking all these things;

    - pool or beach side
    - good, but not deathly, sun
    - good food
    - accomodation, tidy, would prefer self-service, but amn't too pushed
    - nice areas to visit for day trips, possibility of renting a vehicle
    - a lack of knackers

Money wise, am more than willing to go beyond the 500€ standard two week trips.
Would be thinking, if can sort accom and flights for 1k ish (each) and probably live it up a bit while there. Obviously cheaper is better but am flexible and could push price also.

Am indifferent about country or even continent. I really am just looking for people to recommend something they or friends did, and it went down a treat.

    Thanks for any help

God you're splashing out... you really can have an AWESOME holiday with that budget :D

I've been around abit but mostly on the cheap, however when I did have a bit of cash to splash I went to Dubrovnik in Croatia.. its amazing there and you can be sure you won't run into any knackers. There are some fanatastic excursions. Food is great, as is the nightlife, but a little more civilised than your standard package hol to spain or the likes.

Take a look at www.croatiatours.ie, thats wherewe booked. And if your other half doesn't fancy it you can always take me ;)

What about somewhere in the Carribean? It might push your budget a bit, but a lot of the hotels there are all inclusive, so that would cut your food and drink bill. You could prob get two weeks in The Dominican Republic for quite a reasonable price. I have been to Cuba and Mexico and would recommend either, but would prefer Cuba of the two. The beaches there are amazing, you could just completely chill for two weeks. Would stretch your budget, but would be a holiday of a lifetime.

pug_lover, are you offering to meet the "huge amounts of SEX" requirement?

Send me a picture, while I check my passport...

Italy . you could do a week in a city or two such as venice, florence, rome & then head to countryside for the oher week- sorrento or lake garda. Loads of options in italy.

hey thanks for the responses, I was obviously acting the maggot a bit in the first post :D

I've done the canaries type holidays before and that's basically what I want to avoid.
Been to Rome and surrounds recently, bills, was very impressed.

I actually thought about Dubrovnik in Croatia, so I'll do some more googling.

The Dominican Republic, Cuba and Mexico - I will certainly check them out and see if in range. one of the mates has been to the Domenican Republic - so i hear good things.

    Cheers

Mauritius is absolutely gorgeous. Plenty to do, watersports, sights etc. And the nicest beaches...

I've been lucky enough to visit all the places mentioned on this thread.
    I'd rate them as follows:
    Cuba
    Mexico
    Dubrovnik
    Dom Rep.

Cuba is more interesting from a cultural point but you get better
value for money in Mexico and I found the natives friendlier -
especially in the Yucatan. Cuba in the tourist areas is not as cheap
as people may think but it is worth visiting before it becomes a giant
    call center/factory for the USA.

I'll repeat what I seem to say a lot here lately, check the hurricane season
for Mexico/Cuba/Republica Dominicana. September is not a great time
to visit. Whilst the Dalmatian coast gets great weather in the summer
and temperatures can hit the late 30s on occasion they quickly fall off
in late September, do a google on the average climate/temperature for
the part of Croatia you're interested in for the dates you're looking at.

And as for a week in Cuba/Mexico for €500, buene suerte! I'd budget at
    least double or treble that.

Dubrovnik is stunning, but I don't think it ticks all your boxes. There is a lot to see and do in Croatia, so I suggest that you think more broadly: Croatia including Dubrovnik.

It helps if you like fish. Fish there tends to be very good.

It also helps if you like boats and water, because there are islands to visit.

Sandals do some holidays especially for couples. Usually all-inclusive in the Caribbean. They look a real treat, and I don't believe there are any knackers there. :D

Sandals are pretty pricey though, you'd be looking at min €2k each for two weeks I would think. You won't get anywhere in the Carribean for €1k each for two weeks, but do remember that being all-inclusive slashes the amount of spends you need, so it often evens out at the same price.

Alot of the resorts in Cuba are for over 16's only, so you miss out on that 'knacker with 20 kids' element.

But previous poster correct, Sept is prime hurricane time. Your chances of getting hit are pretty slim, but there is always a chance.

Actually Sandals and their sister company 'Beaches' used to offer a guarantee that if your holiday was hit by hurricane, they would give you a free holiday to the same value. Not sure if they still do this though.

Go all inclusive to Cuba. Hotel Playa Pesquero - 5 stars. Had an excellent time here. Cuba was amazing. Go before Fidel dies, and Americanisation starts! Havana is a time-warp - totally amazing. Once you pay to get there - everything all inclusive, and side-trips are very cheap (rum and cigars....)mmm

Go onto Falcon Holidays's website. You can get two weeks in Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt for 1k each and ticks all the boxes. (It's called 'Red Sea Riviera' on their site)
