    Hi all,

Thinking of buying the Jetta and just wondering how anybody who has one finds it or what are peoples opinions on it.

    Cheers

It's pretty much the same as the Golf but with a boot instead of a hatch and built in Mexico afaik.

So look out for usual Golf issues, avoid the basic old 1.6 litre 8 valve engine, try and get a 1.4 TSi or one of the diesels. Like the Bora and Vento before it VW try to pitch the Jetta as a more upmarket saloon which brings it very close in price to the bigger Passat. In that price range people tend to go for the Passat.

I can't see the point of buying a 07 Jetta 1.6 petrol? For similar money you'd get a brand new Skoda Octavia 1.9 tdi in July. Its the same car except its better built, the road tax will be €150, you'll get 55mpg out of it in real world driving to offset the current higher diesel prices and it would be a much nice car to drive.
    The cons: badge snobbery.
If you don't want to go for a Skoda, look at the 1.6 diesels in the Focus, Mazda 3, Citroen C4's, Kia C'eeds ranges. You'll be able to buy a new one of these for approx ,€21k in July.
