    Hi,

There are Genbukan classes available in my area that I was thinking of joining - but I have no idea what this Martial Art is - other than the info on the web site.

Has anyone any experience of this?

Any feedback would be great - am a compelte Martial Art newbie!!!

I never heard of it. No harm in popping in yourself and seeing if it's for you.

Iwas a member of the Genbukan for many years. I found it to be a good style but also found that they were too rigid in their adherance to a syllabus. Rarely if ever had a spar or a roll or randori or whatever you might know it as. I also found the politics interfered with the training too much.

    Just my experience.

    Hi,

I was training down in Cork for 2 years and think the training is excellent but I can understand why people doing sports martial arts might think it's too rigid. I was doing kick boxing at the time and was a bit shocked by how strict the Genbukan training was compared to it. I have to say though that the reason it's so strict is because of the techniques you learn there, they don't teach you that kind of stuff in anything else I've seen, locks, throws, strikes with pretty much every part of your body (not even going into weapons) and a serious amount of history and spiritual teachings. It's mostly Ninja and Samarui arts but they have Chinese Martial arts and other self defence schools as well.

Once you're there a while and learn the do's and don't's it's good fun though. You just have to learn what's disrespectful so you don't go out to train under the Grandmaster in Japan and upset the class there.

If you're looking to learn more than just how to win a medal in a ring, defo check it out. I'm moving back to Cork soon and can't wit to get back into it. They've a website too = www.genbukan.ie

    Cheers,

Some good stuff in it but with all martial arts that have their level of ettiquite you ll have to see how you respond to that environment.

my buddy and myself gave the first guy to do this in ireland his first seminar here back in the late 90's.

they sometimes promote themselves as being "self defence", and don't play on the ninjitsu part.

    but they are very ridgid.

i would not say that what they teach is exclusive to there style.

but they are going now for a long time here.
