Choosing a Laptop; Dell v's Harvey Norman

Been shopping around for a new laptop

    My spec or requirements:

    Budget: up to €1200

Main use: Multimedia, net surfing, listening to music and watching movies

Portability: The smaller and lighter the better

Warranty: Can do basic mantainence and tech stuff by myself.

The main options I have been looking at are

The Dell XPS M1330 (Is it worth going for the white LED display and extended life 9 cell battery) or a spec-ed up Inspiron 1525, both with basic 1 year warranty.

    or alternatively

An off the shelf similarly spec-ed HP, Samsung, Fijitsu Siemens or Acer from Harvey Norman in that order of preference.

What's attracting me to HN at the moment is their rent to buy finance package over 12 or 36 months (APR 10 or 6%) whereby you effectively end up with a warranty and theft or damage protection over the duration of your finance package at no more than 10% of the cost of your computer which works out less expensive that what's on offer from Dell even with their 3 years for 2 deal on warranty?

Any suggestions or advice appreciated? Thanx

Have you considered a Toshiba ?
As far as I'm concerned they are the bees knees, I've had one for three years now, never even had to call technical support, My family have 4 different models of Toshibas since I bought mine, and only once was there ever a problem, and that was fixed in 5 minutes on the phone. I've very little experience with dell, but I've heard some things from friends of mine from college, comlaining about the weight and the after sales service. Tread carefully with Fujitsu and acer, Some of their machines in the past have been a wee bit flimsy.

I have been to Harvey Normans, but can't decide on a Laptop, because I don't know what is best to buy, I was given a price of €529 for a 3gb Laptop (Compaq) plus I would have to pay €200 extra for I don't know what. I just want to be able to play scrabble on line and look up emails etc. when I am away and different things like that. Could you give me advise? Hope I'm not a nuisance to you.
