well i have always fancied getting into photography but so far i havent, and i know nothing about cameras
but an oppurtunity has arisen for me to buy a canon EOS 30d and a bunch of accessories

i know from looking around online that the camera itself is decent and if you get it at a good price you are laughing
but the thing is, the price for these cameras online is a lot less that the price this guy told me
he reckons that all this kit together is worth thousands

now i only had a quick look at it and i will have to get a better look, but there was a bag for the camera, and in the bag there was another lens, what looked like another small camera and a few other bits and peices
and then there was another hard shell case with a lens in it

i realise that this isnt much to go on but i was wondering if there was any way that this could all amount to 1500 euro?
i will try and get more specific information soon, but for now you will have to rely on suuposition and psychic powers

thanks in advance for any help

i'm not a canon head so no personal experience of this here but if you do a search on completed items on eBay you'll find the 30d (body only) for in or around the €400 mark. It depends then on what lens are - the model / fast or slow (f stop - lower = better) / focal length (mm) / zoom or prime, but it would appear to be a lot of makeup to €1500 if they were just *general* lenses. Then again you could spend €1500 for a lens if you were into some serious photography so previous comment may not be much use. Try ascertain what the actual lens are that you'd be getting then try a search for completed items on ebay to ascertain the second hand value.

Hope that helps or at least doesn't confuse further ;o)

If you're only a beginner and know nothing about camera, don't buy all that stuff. That "lens in a hard-case" sounds like a serious job! Get a 40d package like this to start off.

Seems like a lot of camera for a beginner, plus I think most folks would want a wider lens than the one included, and you would be almost certain to have to pay VAT+Duty on an import from the US.

Yeah but the item location is UK.

It may seem like a lot of camera for a beginner, but in reality it's not. It still has auto mode and all the other landscape & portrait modes etc... for beginners. It's not as if it's a 1ds or anything.

Fair enough on the location, I wonder if its UK stock with a Uk warranty, still think that the lens is not wide enough, as a single lens.

Is there another 40d package with a wider lens? Would you recomend the 18-55mm?

I'm not a Canon user so I can't really comment in the quality of their lenses except to say that I've seen comments to the effect that the new IS version is superior.

I would imagine that the kit you linked to isn't an official kit but one put together by the seller.

A 28mm lens on a canon body isn't too bad,You will find yourself upgrading depending on what you shoot but it will keep you happy for a long time.

@ Op what is it you want to shoot?
And try and find out what's in the kits as it would make our lives a lot easier :p

OP I wouldn't buy it, you don't know enough about the Cam/Lense/bag! or yer man, buy a new one from Online in the UK or the North.

If he finds out about it,it could turn out to be a good bit of kit,i think it's worth looking into it before he puts it off....

How did such vague circumstances come about?

Sounds like stolen to me, I'd check serial numbers...

if it turns out that the gear isnt all its cracked up to be then i will just leave it, im not hell bent on getting a camera

well im sure you are all eager to find out what was in the bag but we shall never know
by the time i went to look at it, it had already been sold

i think i had a lucky escape myself as i dont have the time to really make use of such expensive equipment, nevermind the money to buy the thing

thanks again for the help though
