2 d3 problems.

    Hey Guys,

I have a Nikon D3 and use 8gb Sandisk Extreme3 cards in it, 1st problem I have is that it reports the wrong no. of images left that can be taken. When the cards are empty it reports 402 images can be taken, but as I found out today I can take over 650+ images.
2nd problem is this, I bought a 28-70 f2.8 lens 2nd hand recently, when I take a shot on the D3 with it, it takes the image properly but reports ERROR on the lcd when the shot has been taken. Now I can still go ahead and take another shot and it will meter and expose it properly but because it has an error on the lcd it slows down the frame rate which is quite annoying.
This goes away if I switch it on and off and doesnt occur with any other lenses.
Anyone got any ideas what it could be?
    Thanks in advance,

The remaining images is a guestimate and can go up and down as you snap away. Depends on how you've set up the camera and the actual images being recorded.

No idea about query two except maybe a dud lens or contacts. Have you tired it on another body?

Thanks timblefull, I've got it set up to shoot in raw, slot B set up as overfill largest image size, white balance on auto, old d80 could pretty much nail the remaining images no. more than a little surprised shiny new d3 cant get it more accurate.
still i guess i shouldnt complain, its nice to know that i can fit more images on the cards than it seemed like i could.
    Thanks again for the help.

The D3 works dynamically and NEF's can range in size from 12 to 20 mexapixels depending on if you select 12 or 14 bit uncompressed files. It is accurate but takes an average of the images already on the card.
