Trying to scam me ???

After agreeing on a sale & sending the item trackin no. to Paypal, I received an e-mail from them stating that the buyer had mistakenly made 2 payments, the total exceeding the amount that the buyer and myself agreed on and that I should contact the buyer about it.

After doing so, the buyer claimed that they had been in contact with Paypal customer service for rectification but they insisted that the only possible solution is for me to wire the difference back to them via western union AFTER which the total payment will be credited into my account instantly.

Could they be trying to scam me ? Should I not be able to receive the money and then refund it back ? I am now down the item + payment of DHL express shipping costs - surely I should not have to dish out more for this ?

Tell PayPal what the customer is trying to do and tell the customer that all transactions will take place through Paypal.

I would not send any money anywhere!

Take the hit for the item and chalk it up to experience.

    2 things :

    1. Are you sure the email actually was from Paypal? Have you spoken to someone from Paypal personally?
    2. Why did you send the goods before receiving the payment?

This has scamola written all over it.

I'm confused. Why did you send the item tracking number to Paypal in the first place? Was there a dispute opened by the buyer, and then you receive this mail from Paypal about two payments? Have you confirmed that there were two payments received in your account? If so, you can simply reject one and return it to the sender. Stay well clear of WU transfer, that is a surefire scam.

Well, I have deffo been scammed - Im such a sucker ! When I read the e-mails, I specifically looked at the e-mail address to see if they came from an @Paypal.com address, which they did. However when I looked back through my inbox the origional Paypal e-mails, I saw that the REAL Paypal e-mails came from @intl.Paypal.com !

I feel a bit silly I missed that, and that I only caught on when they tried to get money out of me, but whats done is done now :o

Anyway, I told the scammer that all transactions were to be done via Paypal and sent all the scammed e-mails to the spoof Paypal email, but they still dont seem to know that I have caught on. I just got another email from them trying to get me to send them money:
PayPal told me you have been informed about this that what remains is for me to provide you with the information with which you are to send the money via western union money transfer. This is the information below :
(address in Africa, buyer said they were in UK, their EBay account says US!)

Please send the transfer details immediately this is done so i can inform PayPal of this myself so your account could be credited once and for all.

I am really sorry for what this might have caused you,but there is nothing i could about it now.

Exactly, that's rule number one. Rule number two is never send anything to africa. I only sell to USA and EU.
