I'm tempted to download it due to the most recent changes. Looks like a huge US buff that unfortunately will lead to a lot more airborne spam. Like a lot of the Brit nerfs. Think the Marder was hit too hard and they could've just taken the US damage modifier off instead. I suppose only playing it will tell for sure though.

I haven't tried the beta patch, but there's generally good noise coming from people who have it seems.

Regarding the British,I don't think any number of balance patches will fix them properly to be honest, for one simple reason; they have too few units. Only 3 buildings. 2 frontline infantry types (discounting doctrine commandos & lts / captains), 2 light vehicles, and so on. As such, most if not all of them need to gain significant advantages in certain areas or else they get swamped due to a lack of flexability.

A nerf to the Panzer Elite P-IV would be nice though; am sick and tired of a cheap loss because of a fast Panzer camping in my HQ slaughtering all. The US are more prone to this tactic imo.

I'll have to check this out.

I finished the American campaign single player and started the German missions – found them really difficult to work with – before I've opened up tanks – so many types of light vehicles that I can't use effectively :rolleyes:

The main two guesses on GR are that it's a CoH expansion, or more likely, Dawn of War 2.

It would be nice to see a major overhaul of the Opposing Fronts teams, but I guess that's not going to happen. Perhaps some new units & redefining a bunch of the current ones. I would be surprised if it was a beta slot for DoW2, given how Company of Heroes has a decent community as it is.

A new expansion would be nice though. Russians vs ... what? Another German faction?

Well the article does say it's an "unannounced Relic Beta", so that could rule out DoW2 considering we know it's coming, and has been announced *shrug*

There have been announcements about Dawn of War 2 but there have been no announcements about its beta.
Russians and Japanese maybe.

Still no sign, though someone pointed out that those who purchased DoW:Soulstorm would get beta keys for DoW2, so that disqualifies Dawn of War 2 being this "unannounced" beta. It would rock to be another expansion for CoH, though a third Homeworld would do very nicely too

Well since I'm already in the Dawn of War 2 Beta I hope its not it.

I also reckon its COH's next expansion.

With my money on the Russians making an appearance with 1 or 2 new units for all the current factions.

At the very least I know Sephiroth_dude will be interested in this. New wehrmacht campaign and reward units added in latest beta patch.
The campaign in called Tiger Ace but can't be played. The reward units seem to be new skins for existing units that get unlocked by playing the campaign. Read about and see screenshots here.

Hmmm a new campaign? That's kinda interesting! "Reward Units" doesn't imply skins to me though? I dunno, I would have preferred some new factions, but hey. Any update is fine by me (plus the new patch is nearly out anyway!)

This thread has pictures of the new skins. Interesting post in there from a guy that knows someone who went to the Relic open house and says that the only unit you get in the new campaign is a tiger ace. Towards the end though it indicates that we may have to pay for this stuff. Gayness.
I've also seen it mentioned that this may be the undisclosed beta...

Whoah, they're not just new skins, but new vehicles proper. The Swimwaggen replaces the motorbike which is a big change considering (I Presume) it can reverse! Shame they're not present in automatch games tho'.

I wouldn't mind paying for these additions though, so long as the charge wasn't a rip off (think Oblivion DLC here)

Apparently the Swimwaggen suffers less of a movement penalty when going through water.
More mutterings from people that went to the open house too. Things about different ammo types for tanks and tank commanders that can be ordered in or out of the hatch on top.

It's interesting how Downloadable Content is taking off with a lot of games; naturally of course a lot of fanboys are gonna be screaming "OP!" about these new / altered units.

Well I don't see the point of just adding new units just for the sake of it. Especially if they are OP and unbalanced. Then they end up making the game less fun.
Already people are saying the Swimwagen is ridiculous since it can reverse and can be spammed so easily.

Well this is all appearing in the beta patch yeh? In which case there'll be time and opportunity to refine any potential spamming tactics.

considering the amount of expansions relic made for DoW i would be very surprised if there isnt at least one more expansion on the cards for company of heroes.

just think for a second about the number of options they have.

Pacific japs v yanks or russians v japs

north africa rommels lads v desert rats

eastern front germans v russians

the north africa and pacific options would make for a really different environment while the eastern front would let them have snowey battlefields.

but that said i would love to see another homeworld game in dx10.
