Complex carbs and burning fat

    Howdi all,

    I have a problem.

I wanted to burn some body fat off. As it is i have very little fat, just a bit of a belly that i want to get rid off with some serious training inculding weight training 3 times a week while playing football at a decent level 3 times a week or doin a couple of spinning classes a week for the cardio.

But recently i overheard an instructor in my gym that the only way to get rid of bodyfat is to eat healthy and get rid of all the complex carbs.

I had previously thought that complex carbs like rice, pasta and breads were alright when cutting bodyfat as long as they wer of the wholegain variety. As it happens i eat a lot of bread, always brown wholegrain, a lot of rice and pasta also which are wholegrain.

So do i need to cut these out of my diet and if so what can i replace then with. If so could somebody direct me to what kind of foods and workable hot meals i ca replace these with, maybe some good websites with recipes and ideas.

    Cheers!

I can't answer your question but I don't think bread will do you any favours while trying to lose serious BF%.

But brown rice I thought was okay, Ryan Reynolds ate it everyday when he was cutting for Blade Trinity, and his physique was damn impressive!

Oh i forgot to mention porridge also. Do i need to cut out this too or what?

I can see the argument for getting rid of a certain amount of carbs as then you willburn fat instead of carbs when rtaining

Bread and pasta and white rice are usually simple carbs, as far as your body is concerned, they are almost the same as just eating sugar. Complex carbs are things like sweet potato, wild rice, oatmeal, barley, etc.

I'm not a fan of high carb diets, but if you are working hard, complex carbs (and of course, lots of green vegetables) have a place in your diet. I'd be a lot quicker to get rid of the simple carbs.

Make sure you are getting enough Vitamin C and fish oil. They are both pretty significant when it comes to burning extra fat during exercise.

IMO this guy/gall is wrong to say only.

If you're training hard then complex carbs like brown rice, oats etc. have a place in your diet. If you go for zero complex carbs your training capacity will probably be reduced. Thus, you probably won't be able to train with an intensity that would most likely help burn the fat more.

However cutting down on carbs can help with fatloss. You might want to experiment. A good starting point would be to go for 3 servings a day- breakfast, pre-workout and post-workout. See how that goes for a while.

Lots of foods out there to sub in too. Meat, eggs, fish, nuts etc. the possibilities are endless!

Cheers for that because i love brow rice and maybe i can just cut out most of the bread and eat that instead.

and al, which carbs should i cut out then? Can porridge once a day with water or low fat milk hinder my fat burning efforts?
