Just wondering after a night out in spy/wax in Dublin (and days of rining in my ears) what are the laws on sound levels in clubs ?
Its loud to the point where it hurts to stand next to one of the speakers and the fact that theyre mounted on the roof downstaris means that its almost impossible to not be standing next to one on the dancefloor. its the only place ive ever been thats been so loud ive gone outside to give my ears a rest !

anybody else whos been there think its needlessly loud ?

I think its unnecessary to have speakers this loud. I suffer from tinnitus and loud speakers make it worse for days afterwards. I always fear that it will become permanently worsened.

Haven't been to Spy/Wax but found Traffic's sound system was a bit loud for my (unfortunately) human ears. Granted it was New Year's Eve but my ears were ringing for, not one, but TWO days after.

Surely that can't be good for the ould 'audio canals'.

// waits for the "If it's too loud, you're too old!" commenteer.

Its absolutely ridiculous in there alright; I've a feeling they have a compressor across the master outs as well as, to me anyway, its not just the volume as you would hear artifacts and distortion - its the actually decibel level of the frequencies across the board. You can't even talk to someone in the smoking area there. Louder is never better; clarity and distinct bass, mid and high range is the most important thing in an in-house rig - their FOH sound guy is obviously taking the easiest way out.

Just in from Wax and have to agree it's far too loud in there (much more so than Spy). Ears are still ringing at the moment.

Although the wimminz there did make up for it :D

Totally agree. I really love a lot of the acts that are appearing there but the level of sound is totally ridiculous. Went to Dr Lektroluv there a while back and along with it being completely packed to the rafters in a rubbish way, the sound was so loud it sounded like a hissed thud if there was heavy bassline. Dodgy.

Have to agree, Wax is ridiculously loud.. always leaves the ears ringing. Much louder than any of the other clubs in town IMO
