I know it might seem trivial but I was just reading the headline about the 17 year old who was up in court today charged with the murder of the 2 polish guys http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0612/drimnagh.html .

It mentioned in the article that the accused wore a tracksuit. Is it just me or does that scream that you couldnt give a crap about the trial or the judge etc. I know if I was up in court for any reason I would make sure I had a pair of slacks on and a shirt at the very least. Or are tracksuits the new suit to be seen in when up in court?

In certain circles they are the 'good' clothes.
The fact that this guy doesn't conform to what is seen by society as a respectful dress code is not really a surprise, if he did what he is accused of.

It's so the court takes petty on his lower class background.

Gives the impression that tracksuits and murder are all the kid knows.

It’s not the actual trial though.
And it’ll make no difference because in theory the jury have no prejudice or decision made in their minds about their guilt or not.

That’s assumuing they’d don’t plead guilty. I can’t see how they can possibly plead not guilty.
But if they do say not guilty, then wearing a tracksuit today doesn’t matter in the slightest

If somebody is so concerned about what clothes I'm wearing then I hope they're not in the jury as they seemed to have lost focus on what is important. :pac:

When it comes to a crime as great as murder, I'd say what you're wearing wouldn't make much of a difference.

    Well it was a tracksuit

Wearing a suit wont change his fate of getting slapped over the head with 2 life sentences.

    this isn't america. he'll probably get a €50 fine

Walk outside the fourcourts building some weekday morning and you'll be able to spot the defendents having a quick smoke, dressed in thier best tracksuits. The really serious criminals are on crutches, too.

Would you, a regular person with common sense, education and decent background wear a tracksuit to court??

Would you, a regular person with sommon sense, education and decent background murder two people??

I think it's very likely that he doesn't have any other clothes.

But it's just clothes. Clothes don't say anything, they're clothes.

Wearing a suit won't make a lick of difference your just going to look like more of a dick spending a few hunderd euros to look good in front of a judge that's only goin to make a **** out of you anyway.

He is scum, I think that is pretty much the only explanation needed as to why he didn't choose to wear a suit.

It think it would very much influence the jury. I think what someone wears influences our opinions on someone more than we would realize, its downright stupid heading into court in a tracksuit especially with the sort of people tracksuits are associated with.

As monkeyfudge says, for serious crime you face more of a chance of being f*cked from a height if you wear a suit. If you're up for rape but look like you spend your days in the office and your nights playing squash, then the judge is going to screw you because you look like you should know better.

If you look deprived, then you're somehow more worthy of pity, even though you're just a waster.

I don't own a tracksuit, but I'd buy one especially for my court appearance.

Saw a lad in front of the judge in the Dublin circuit court with an bottle of alcopop sticking out of his trackie pocket. He had an insane amount of previous convictions as well.
