    Hi,

I'm looking to start up a martial art, too get fit and also I was always interested in martial arts.

I used to do Shoalin in Blackrock years ago, but since then I had to move away from dublin for a few years and now I'm back again.

Just wondering what is the best martial art for getting fit and what good clubs are there in south dublin would you recommend.

I was thinking about maybe kickboxing but I'm only aware of clubs on the north side. Are there any good ones on the south ?

    Terrlock,

Whereabouts are you on the southside, there's a big gulf between Tallaght and Dun Laoghaire.

There's a lot of different martial arts out there, and in my experience it's usually the ones with a competitive element that will have the fitter practitioners.

    Judo
    Muay Thai
    Kickboxing
    Wrestling
    Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
    Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)

If any of these take your fancy let us know and we'll direct you towards clubs.

    Colm

They all sound interesting, I live in Blessington but work in sandyford.

So a club close to sandyford would suit. I can just go too after work.

Sorry to jump in here OP

Could I get a few details for places that do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Muay Thai, preferably south side, but anywhere in Dublin if not.

    Would love to start BJJ

    Hi

We have classes on Silat in Firhouse, which you prob pass on your way from Sandyford. Silat is a Malay combat art form, which covers both Grappling, Groundfighting and Striking along with weapon defence skills. Training is done in the "alive" method and classes are informal with a good healthy attitude from the students which means you get a good workout each night. We have an Intro package where you can try out for 8 sessions. If it interest you, you can send me a PM. You be more than welcome to come along. All you need is t shirt, loose training bottoms, towel and water.

I've been thinking about taking up some Martial Art myself, the club above would be fairly handy for me to get to.

How accomodating are they with beginners ?
