Buying a camcorder from USA

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum but I can't seem to find one for camcorders.

Anyway I'm thinking of buying a Full HD camcorder and have seen that the prices in the USA are about half of what I would be paying here. My sister lives in the US so I was going to get her to post it over and aside from the possibility of having to pay tax etc is there anything else I should be worried about.

I'm not very technical when it comes to these products so I was wondering if there are any issues with the whole PAL/NTSC thing. I have googled it etc and can't make head not tail out of it so I suppose what I am asking is "will I be able to connect the camcorder to my HD TV without any issues"

    Cheers

Should not be a problem anymore, most tv's have signal inputs for pal/ntsc .. or auto detect the signal.

In fairness the chances of you playing the video RAW through the camera direct are slim and none.

You'll prob be going though an editor program on the PC or MAC .. so you can change the format there before burning to disc, format of the cam should not make a diff.

bought my cam a few years back for less than 50% the going rate here at the time and never an issue

i wouldent be so sure.... ntsc is a completly different format.... i wouldent chance it...

I dont know if your after a small camcorder or a pro one... but the ones ive been looking at can do both ( the pro ones) so if you can get a camera that can do 1080i and 570 p your laughing... (570p is the setting in europe)

Its a small camera I'm going for not a pro one. I think I have settled on the Canon Vixia HF100. I checked the tech spec of my TV and it supports PAL, SECAM and NTSC video playback so hopefully I will be OK. Also the info below is on the Canon website so I'm assuming this means I can hook it up directly to the TV without converting or editing it??

The Canon VIXIA HF100 not only captures images in Full HD, but records and outputs at 1920 x 1080* as well, so you get Full HD from lens to screen. Your memories are preserved in stunning clarity, and ready for playback on your HDTV.
