The Bingham Cup (Gay Rugby World Cup) comes to Dublin this weekend with 32 teams from around the world battling it out. It is on in DCU sports grounds from 9am tomorrow until 6pm on Sunday. Promises to be a great event. Grades are from Senior j1 level in the Cup down to j4 level in the bowl and shield. Two irish teams are taking part - the Emerald Warriors and the Ulster Titans. Some of you might have played the warriors in the J4 league.

Anyway just giving it a plug.

I'm sure you would have had a very interesting one if you had made one.

Saw a documentary on the Warriors on TG4 last night. From 0 to hosting a world cup in 5 years is some going - fair play to them.

Fair play, looks like a decent organised event.

Saw the documentary about the New York event last night on TG4. Maybe my digital settings are screwed up but it was giving English subtitles for the bits that were spoken in English and nothing for the bits spoken in Irish. It's a long time since I learned mo chuid Gaeilge so I only got the general drift of what was going on.

I believe the Sydney Convicts won the tournament last time around without conceding a try.

I hope they get better facilities to play on than they did in New York. Imagine the players being told to inspect the field and remove bottle tops and syringes before playing on them!!! And some of the pitches they played on seemed to be just patches of wasteland.

Fair play to the lads. Hope they enjoy themselves. And that the clean cut guy who was complaining that all the talent in the night club they went to were "bears" gets somebody a little more clean shaven this time!!:D

I reckon it might be on TG4 Web TV sometime later today. Missed it myself.

Should be a good event. A friend of mine is playing so I'm hoping to head out to see a game.

just had look at the listing of the teams, seems to be loads of US teams competing

The pitch at DCU is a bit rubbish, there's no floodlights etc. but it's definitely miles better than the facilities in the US.

Was talking to one of the guys who's refereeing at it, they're all looking forward to it and it seems to be pretty well organised. Calling it the gay rugby world cup is a little misleading though :)

I reffed the warriors this year in a J4 match, great bunch of lads. Although I nearly put my foot in it when I almost ask their pack to straighten up in a lineout.
    Best of luck Warriors!

I'm getting behind the Ulster Titans, maybe not

Facilities in DCU were excellent - 4 pitches all in great condition apart from being rock hard - no need for floodlights as it was bright till 7pm every day.

The whole event was a credit to the Emerald Warriors - extremely well run, on schedule every day, teams of 3 for each match, teneted viallage for officials and teams, two rain showers over 3 days and it was great fun.

Well, I was speaking in my capacity as a DCU student and DCU rugby player. The showering and changing facilities are decent, but there is only ever the one pitch used (as that's all we have) Perhaps they converted the soccer and GAA pitches for this event. We're generally not even allowed to train on the rugby pitch so that probably explains its good condition.

Glad to hear it went well anyway.

Yeah they converted the Sigerson Cup pitch into two rugby pitches and another GAA pitch into one aswell. I think the only one complaint is that the guy who marked then seemed to put another dashed line between the 22 and 10 meter which caused much confusion for all.

He's a soccer man, and from my own experience playing there it was lucky it was marked at all!
