Was reading in the paper today how the Eire models agency has scammed thousands of euro of young wannbee models. Is this true??
I ask beacuse I did an interview with them for their magazine about three weeks ago. They seemed pretty legit when I was talking to them so whats the story?

It seems pretty dodge when you go to their website http://www.eiremodels.com/ .You dont close down a modelling agency because of bad press, If you have nothing to hide then you weather out the storm.

There was a huge discussion about this on Joe Duffy on Tuesday.. the representatives were on trying to defend themselves and they sounded guilty as hell.. they were also very rude. There were young people calling up saying how they had been hassled from money off them, and many other accusations. A sham, IMO.

That seems very dodgy alright- whats the bets that none of the poor girls will see their money again. :(

I was talking to the person who interviewed me and apparently the employers cheques have all bounced so none of the makeup artists etc are getting paid.

When will young women learn that you never give money over to a modelling agency. There really should be some sort of new regulations on this as these scams are all too commomplace

"No one has ever had a negative thing to say about our business before, although it’s clear that we cannot recover from such an unprovoked, shocking and continued attack."

Thats a bit hasty to just close down on the basis of bad press? Hmmmm!

So many young people just want to be famous. They see Next Top model and X factor and think 300 euro is gonna get them a ticket to success. Takes more than that I'm afraid.

But can't believe some of the parents paying the money. The young girls hardly had that type of money hanging around?

The problem with dealing with a business like that is they aren't offering anything definite because what you, as the client, have to offer is based on a trend. No matter how cute anyone thinks they are if Jean Paul Gautier all of a sudden decided that fat bald chicks were the way to go everyone would soon follow suit and even if you're not fat or bald these business's would still flatter you and tell you how you're the next big thing just to screw you out of another 500 quid while in the background spending al their time signing up fat, bald chicks. They never have to tell you anything definite or make any promises because the industry is subjective and based on demand and 1% if even that make any kind of money out of it but these companies will still lead you to believe otherwise, why? because it's how they make their money.

    Hi everyone,
can i just say that two of my mates work for Eire Models, one as a make-up artist and one fairly high up in the company. They are both as much victims as the models who were scammed out of money, their wages cheques bounced etc.
Joe Duffy read out a list of staff on air-the girls really had no idea what was going on and this has really upset one of them in particular-she's not even out of college and she feels she has been blacklisted forever.
So please remember that these girls working for Eire Models are completely innocent.

That's horrible to hear. And it does happen in this industry. I'd suggest that your friend email or phone up Joe and ask for him to retract his statement that the make-up artist was involved in this scam and was a victim too!

I think people in the industry will know that she had nothing to do with it as make-up artist/stylists work freelance for agencies and wouldn't be connected with the running of the company. They'd just be told there's a gig, do you want it and presume its legit.

yeah i think the girls are gonna try and get some legal advice about where to go next.

A load of nasty rumours have since come out about the guy in charge-he's apparently banned from working in England and Wales. The question should be asked; why was he let set up shop here??

Allowed? Whos gonna stop him, he was probably a sole trader so there are no checks.

It's a disrgace but think how bad things would have got if Joe D / Adrienne Kennedy / The media in general didn't bring it into the public arena.

I'd love to hear the extent to which this guy gets prosecuted. They should be extra hard for preying on the vunerable.

I remember seeing the ad they put up on gumtree.
    It sounded well dodgy.

Our classes start at 10am on every Saturday although you can attend at whatever time suits you. You can also stay for as long as you want during the day, most models stay for about 2hrs. We provide refreshments, snacks and sandwiches throughout.

This is also a good time to meet our more experienced models and see how successful they have become. So please come along, get yourself noticed and remember you can only get out what you put in.

All of our models who attend our classes are automatically entered into ‘Ireland’s next top model’ which is hosted in August 08 by ‘Eire Models’ in partnership with ‘Fashion TV’.

I dunno...I'm an actress myself, and I'm well used to the type of ads that promise you everything for a small fee.
300 euro is fairly ridiculous

On the website, it reads, we are persuing 'liable' proceedings... Im sorry, but isnt it libel proceedings, to sue for defamation and such?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

I somehow suspect nobody will be found liable in their libel proceedings as they will never happen. The guy will do his best to disappear and nobody will see their money again.
