Sky HD Install - Wireless Phone Extender

    Hi all,

A sky installer is coming out next week to install Sky HD and a multi room subscription upstairs. Basically the phone points in the house are no where near where the sky boxes are going to be. Basically I was going to use 2 'one for all wireless phone' extenders, like the below:

    http://www.sendit.com/accessories/item/5000000001009

So my question to any installers (Tony, etc) or anyone who can help is:

-Do two wireless extenders generally work for a HD and sky + installation
-Is there anywhere in Ireland (bricks and mortar or online) that sells a transmitter and two receivers (as opposed to just a single transmitter and receiver).

    Thanks in advance

    Bluefish

    Thanks for that Skyuser...........

Other websites selling the same say not completely compatible with all Sky HD and Sky + boxes. Anyway will just have to gamble and but it.

Did this work out for you? Wondering about the same thing myself. Very annoyed about this whole "you need two phone connections" for multi-room. Had very funny conversation with a very, very understanding Sky salesperson - basically admitting that the idea was bordering on retarded to have hardlines trailing throughout the house. I did read a few negative threads about the wireless splitters, but they tended to be in relation to Sky+...

    So, how did it go?

Have not purchased yet, the install is happening this week so will be doing it soon. Only going to purchase one phone extender and get the second box wired from a phone point.

Will let you know how it goes.

How did the phone extender work out for you? I use them for installations on a regular basis and fine them excellent. The call back to activate the sky card can fail sometimes but once card is active everything else work seamlessly.

I have used the one for all wireless phone unit on HD Boxes on a number of occasions and they always failed. I personally find the one for all to be unreliable.

I have never used the Phonejack ones for HD yet but when I have used the Phonejack ones I found them to be much more reliable and the pairing options for a second box is much cheaper option and the only one i WOULD recommend to you.

I wonder can I resurrect this thread? I need to keep the broadband going perfectly in the house, and need (being a relative need) to get Sky in two rooms - living room and bedroom. As far as I can do it here, the arrangement would look like this. X is the location of TV 1 and Y is the location of TV 2. Z is where my phone socket is now which has the Smart BB router plugged in 24/7.

Will I need some sort of splitter on the phone socket to accomodate wireless jacks?

(Damn, the crappy diagram ain't coming out right when the post goes up....sorry)

The wireless phone jack gives u back a slot for use to plug a phone into line that you could use for the bedroom etc....

Thanks...I see that all I really have to do is use the usual splitter at the main socket with one line bringing the ADSL to the router, and the other line bringing the phone line to the base unit of the wireless splitter etc.

Does anyone know if there are definite problems doing this with Sky +? Conflicting threads etc..

As i said in an earlier posting I found a few problems from time to time with the one for all make. But never any problems with the ones made by Phone Jak...they look exactly the same but way different in operation...

    Guys
I just had sky+HD and multi room install on Monday and had the same problem room to far a way from the telephone point the sky installer sold me a wireless telephone extender!!! bit of a rip off but he had me over a barrel at the time. He did say that you can buy them in Maplin. Anyway working a treat and we even used it to register the sky cards.
    Hope this helps

Certain Wireless phone extenders will not work if the telephone line in question is routed through a 12Khz rack in the telephone exchange, and if it is you will also find your line will not support broadband even if you live next door to the exchange! This is probably why some people here have problems with them.

Hi all, not directly related to Sky, but this is where I see most of the discussion on the wireless phone extenders so is the best place to post.

I'm looking to send a phone signal to an outdoor shed and am considering two options. Firstly this One for all product, http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=227308 from the Maplin's UK store. It says it comes with an RJ11 adapter so i think it should work perfectly. Haven't had a chance to check in the Irish Maplin retail store off Parnell St (am i right in saying there is no specific Irish website?), but it seems like a decent enough bet to go with the UK site. I think when delivery is added in you'd be talking about €60. Does anyone know anywhere in Ireland, or Dublin specifically that'd have the product, or similar, at a better price?

While Maplin offer the One for All product, I've also seen the RTX product here, http://www.xtendedplay.co.uk/rtx-wireless-phone-jack-line-extension-kit-dect-extender-prodid-155.html and http://www.hip-ip.com/product/accessories/telephone-accessories/wireless-phone-jack .

And just to confirm, does anyone know whether the RTX one has RJ11 connections, seems to me like the Hip-IP site may be the best option? Thanks in advance.

Doubt this would work as they only work properly when the two units are on the same ring circuit. You would be better off running a cable notibly an outdoor cat5 cable.

looking to revisit this topic. Just change ISP's to upc and the modem is in a different room to the original phone line. does anyone have the name of a wireless extender that 100% works and a link to it? thanks

Bought this one, http://www.hip-ip.com/product/accessories/telephone-accessories/wireless-phone-jack , and had no problems at all. It sends a phone line almost 25metres away from one end of yard to shed phone. Works perfect for that. Can only assume it would be fine for your UPC needs too...

I'm afraid I didn't, but wouldn't the sky box just be doing a quick "phone home" now and again so surely would work ok?

I have 2 HD boxes with multiroom in the house and they're connected using RTX3068 wireless base and extension units and so far (3 months later) there's been no issues with the boxes not finding the line, or interference with my DSL wireless signal.

I have a HD,Sky+ and a standard box. Of the 3, the HD box doesnt seem to connect.
The extender is flashing green but the box says phone line is not connected.

I've seen reports of problems with HD with the wireless, but cant see any solutions.

    Any info out there?
    Box was installed last month.
