Flaking gold paint on leather handbag

I got a gorgeous gold leather satchel handbag about 6 months ago and within a few weeks (wasn't even using it every day) the gold paint started flaking off :-( Anyone know how I can fix this? Is there a specific type of paint that needs to be used on leather?
