Between myself and the rest of my fam, our house is awash with golf equipment, Rotella books, worn out Cleveland wedges and practice ball tubes. Thankfully, we're not inclined to be suckered by crappy training aids and gimmic books so we only have the well recommended stuff like Rotella and Pelz.

As it happens, I never actually picked up the putting book until last night. It's been in the gaf for years but I never really looked at it til last night and I must say, it was the biggest load of over technical, complicated-for-the-sake-of-being-complicated load of garbage I've ever read!

14 building blocks of putting? 7 blocks of stroke mechanics?? Are you f*ckin sh*tting me???

Dr Bob is the man when it comes to putting. Found his books a big help.

I've only ever used bits of what Pelz says. Tailored my own little practice games out of what he talks about.

Yeah most good teaching pros have read Pelz so getting the relevent info second hand from them in a concise, tailerd way is the way to go.

Putting Out of your Mind by Rotellas is great.

Ordered "Tiger Woods: How I Play Golf" off Amazon back in January and it only shipped yesterday!!

Not sure which of SS's categories it will fall into. "Gimmic book" or the "well recommended stuff" but I'm hoping that the difficulty Amazon had in getting their hands on a copy means it's a quality read. ;)

That's gas, I actually had a read of that too last night.

That was bought by a relative for our youngest when he was about 13. I only flicked through it but from what I saw it was decent but very, very basic. I was looking at the pitching and chipping parts and it's all simple stuff which, in fairness, is really all he does himself. The 1% of mad stuff he tries can't exactly be explained in a book anyway so for what it is, it's good.

Looked like something ideal for mid-high handicaps but mostly stuff a lower single figure golfer should already know.

    Hey man

Y don't you play Pitch & Putt for a while as this will really strengthen your short game as your chipping has to be spot on and it will really improve you from 80 yards in..:)

Better than any range or books as you have direct targets to hit all the time.. Up to you but playing Pitch & Putt has proven over the years to really improve a golfers co ordination for the short game;)

    You should read this book
    http://www.thegolfingmachine.com/theBook/index.php
Its a crazy ,technically complicated read.
    Took 27 years to write.

Pelz's short game book is not bad but the putting one is not a good book imo.

Yeah what I've looked at in the short game one is interesting. I was about to delve into it when my pitching was really bad a few weeks ago but instead just worked on my old drills I used to do and it came back with a serious vengance ;)

Probably will have a go at the SG book later in the summer anyway though.

a bit steep at €400 for a day which seems to be cheapest option. Don't think he even gives the lessons either..

I've always found Pelz method of teaching gimmicky, while he does teach valid points, I think he is obsessed with training aids and has a manner about him that gets under my skin, although I always enjoyed his shows on the golf channel, purely for comical/entertainment value.
He is the biggest culprit of turning an art form into a science imo.
