I know its unlikely that fiji will beat the maoris but we are just one bad result from dropping out of the top 8. if scotland manage to beat argentina and we loose to australia they will also clost to over taking us.

Does any one know why the world cup draw has to take place 3 years before the finals? the draw for the football world cup is less than a year before than the world cup and it is a far bigger event.

It makes no sense really. As, Gerry Thornley(I think) said last week, postponing the draw till 2009 or 2010 would make sure there was an edge to the Autumn tests (there'll be no meaningful ones in the summer for us as the Lions will be tourning).

Regarding our 8th place ranking it is very possible that we drop out of 8th as we could very possibly, but I don't think we will, loose most of our Autumn internationals against the Kiwi's, Argentina and South Africa (not confirmed yet but will more than likely take place). We may be looking at one test victory between now and Christmans, against Canada. Lets hope thats not the case and we beat the Aussies on Saturday, get revenge on the Puma's in Croker and defeat the world champions and the Kiwi's and put a cricket score up against Canade in Thomond and go into the draw as 2nd or 3rd seeds!!!!!!

    In Kidney we trust!!!

Maybe a stupid question but what's the worst result of having a ranking of 9 come draw time?

Is is that we'll be regarded as a minnow nation and put in a group that's difficult to qualify from?

Does anyone recall what ours/France's/Argentina's ranking was at the time of the last draw and just before the RWC?

    Thanks,
    Col

A group with two big nations in it like in 2007 is the worst case scenario. The reason we got Argentina last time out is that they were outside the top 8 in the worlds ranking and were a third seeded team, if we were outside the top eight you could be looking at a nightmare group containing NZ, France and us for example.

Maori and Australia A arent capped games as far as im aware so even if they did manage it (Maoris are **** this year) it wouldnt change their rankings at all. More evidence of the islanders being screwed by the IRB.

As far as im aware its a new system to get into the RWC for 2011 usually it was if you got past your group you would be a guaranteed a place for the next RWC if you didnt you had to a qualify by playing minows etc. This time around the IRB has set a deadline [Worst one ever imo it favours the big 8 so much it isnt even funny] and your qualification is based on your standings by December.
