    Yeah,

    Things seem to be dead
Not one call about the Renault 16
Nearly giving the 18 away, and no calls either.Have just pulled out of deal on Fuego Turbo to keep my cash
    as I'm wary of market/slump.

If I've pulled out,,,how many more like me are there???

The markets dead alright, even cheap small cars aren't selling either even at knockdown prices. I have friends in retail too and that's dead too, there'll be a lot of people looking for jobs by the end of the summer by the looks of things. If only Cowen and co would get off their a*ses and sort things out instead of sitting on the fence and watching the country crash, it will be too late to sort the mess out later and no doubt they'll blame us for voting no anyway.

Yes, i agree with junkyard,i know of alot of carpenters and other tradesmen that are out of work,or on their last few jobs,as he said,if the no vote carries, the government will use it as an excuse. The price of diesel seems to go up by the week also, grrr!!
Still, i cant believe you pulled out of that fuego turbo deal, she looked sweet, did you sell the 15 at all?

Ads look okay to me, as do the asking prices assuming the cars are good (though this is not my price range of the market...).

Only consolation is that at least the phone isn't ringing at all... could be worse, could be a bunch of timewasters wanting a test drive.

If I had a garage i'd take the SL off you, its stunning, a credit to you.

was speaking to a friend the other day who has a couple of classics and he reckons the prices are falling, escorts were one he mentioned.

porsche you have is a nice car and not a bad price either in my opinion

Some more pics would help the sale of the Pagoda - looks great, though.

Regarding the Porsche, in the current climate maybe people are concerned about the rising tax and fuel costs. I would have thought that price a little steep, too! *

    * not an expert in Porsche prices!

Thanks to all for your thoughts. Although neither car is concours, they are both well cared-for and in very good condition. I suppose the question now is whether to hold on or drop the prices.

Dades - Unfortunately I can't take any more pics of the Mercedes, as it's over with Benjamin Lichtenberg having a few parts fitted. The Porsche isn't the cheapest out there, but it genuinely does look better than most of the others of similar age i've seen when out driving.

Well then it comes down to wether you can afford to hold on to them without dropping the prices.

Are you actually selling both or is it once one sells you'll keep the other?

I'd really like to sell one straight away. My gf was recently involved in a fairly big accident (nobody hurt, fortunately), and we need to get her into a safe estate car asap. I would sell both if the money was right, but i'd be a lot more relaxed if just one were gone.

Is the merc still on UK plates? Maybe try sell it back into the UK

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,837 ✭✭✭S.I.R

VRT scares most buyers so if its on english plates it looks as though its a fresh import being sold by a curb side dealership....

who much is it on them anywho ?

also @ granadamad: thank god they finally are... might be able to get a mkII 1.1 popular for a first car after all !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Yeah to the ill-informed UK plates can be a put off.

I think the prices, certainly for the 911 look okay, there are plenty of Pagoda's for sale at the moment from what I hear !

If they were my cars I would do two things, firstly I would indicate via the ad that you would be prepared to negotiate for a quick sale. I dont mean sound desperate, but at least someone may feel there could be a bargain and they may lift the phone. It gets things going.

Also I would try bringing them to one of the Shows, Terenure has a special enclosure for Cars for Sale, you will get a few thousand viewer, they may not be punters, but something may come of it.

I do agree that the market is dead, even folk with money are keeping tight. I was with a chap at Mosney who is a prolific buyer of cars, loads of money, and he spotted a few he could buy with the money in his pocket on any given day. But even he held off, and he doesn't speculate or buy 'n'sell, so the market shouldn't really matter to him!

    Good luck anyway !

The Mercedes has been registered here for the past two years, I just haven't got around to having the plates made up for it yet!

Thanks for the other two ideas Ben, i'll change the ads immediately and bring them to the shows.

'sfunny, I have 2 P cars for sale, similarly, no bites - well, no real ones at any rate.

Whilst the tax is a pain, no doubt, I actually think petrol is not so much of an issue in this area - the cars aren't used everyday, or do big miles, so they can't add huge costs to day-to-day running, fuel wise.

Me? Well, I've taken the plunge and taken my 968 to UK for a bunch of work, due to collect it back in 10 days time. Arguably, the car can't justify the spend, but at the same time no point in trying to enjoy it if it's not in the condition you want it to be.

Most of the classic porsches on carzone have been for sale for quite a while. SSIA money seems to have dried up.

    Also for similar money

Its not a suprise if the more top end priced cars are slow, with unemployment though the 200k mark people are in wait and see mode I'm sure.

There's been an awful glut of Escorts imported in the last few years just too many about - I can't figure out why - one of the most hideous cars ever made IMO! Seems like every show you go to these days is full of guys flogging newly imported classics (and generally knowing shag all about them!)

"Most of the SSIA money seems to have dried up."

Don't think it's SSIA money drying up as it is people getting wise! Just because it's a 911, people ask silly money, In UK with a friend & got a '98 Carrera 2, FPSH, 64, 000, in beautiful spec & exceptionally clean for STG£15, 000 & €8K to clear. Said it cost him €27, 000 all done including return ferry & one nights accommodation, now compare that to Avg. mid €40's on cazone, really says it all..

Good news - got a call about the Pagoda today! I'll keep you all posted.

alpina - Are you sure that 911 was a 98? €8k sounds like very little to clear a 98, they'd have to be working off an OMSP of €27,000 or so?

Was going to ask the same thing. There's SFA out on the revenue website about any Porsche more than a couple of years old, but from experience, they over-estimate the OMSP by quite some margin...

If you do put in a model and year as close as you can ( I know it says 997 ) , it comes up with a OMSP of close to 28K
