Played Dun Laoghaire yesterday. Very impressive club house and facilities... course a little on the Hilly side. Can't seem to get any info about membership with them though... anyone got any details??

Bloody hard as far as I know and expensive (approx 16K)

I dont think they plan to bring on any members for some time as they were having problems accommodating all the existing members for weekend comps last year.

    Hell of a course though

    How much is a round?

    Trampas

I have heard €125-€175 for a round off the street (higher one seems ott to me). If you know a member the wed invit fourball is not too bad (€20 I think)

Wow you could play Torrey Pines for less than that, although that doesn't include about a €1,000 air fare...

I thought they were struggling for money to fund the year on year costs? Apparently they can't use the cash reserves because of the tax treatment they got?

Think it was in Pat Ruddys column?

I heard from one of the lads in my club (Foxrock) that the electricity bill alone for the first 2 months in Dun Laoghaire was something like €10k or €12k or something ridiculous like that. They will really struggle for money, and it won't take too much time to work their way through what ever profit they made from the move.

They were given the new 27 hole course, a new clubhouse and €20m in cash.

Can't see them ever being stuck for cash!!!

I heard talk of that too but some of that might well be down to bedding into the new club. To be honest I think there should be enough cop on in that club to ensure that what is a great course can be kept as same.

I think membership may take some time to open up as the guys i know there certainly had problems getting out last year and the idea of bringing in more members is unlikely until those issues are resolved. If they are and it does open up it is a fantastic facility that would have no shortage of applicants (even in these uncertain times)

You would be surprised how slow people would be to shell out 15k or so on a golf membership that they will never get back when all non essential costs are shooting up.

There appears to be a lot of people letting their GUI and club memberships lapse rather than even pay 1k or so for their yearly subs, based on falls in GUI membership this year. When that starts to happen clubs need new members just to keep in the black year on year. The more clubs that need members the harder it is to get them as people who can afford to join can afford to be picky.

When car dealers can't shift Mercs and BMWs you know golf clubs are also suffering!

I've played it and will be playing it again on Sunday. Not a very good course - rediculous, in fact. They've jammed in every artificial feature they could. Not a natural course at all. They club house is outrageous. And the security man stopping everyone at the gate... That's not what Irish golf is about.

Both course and clubhouse would fit in better in Disneyland.

I don't know if you play much golf but what courses in the area are you comparing it with. It's a fine course, the only negative for me are the par 5's are too short but surely you must admit there are some lovely holes, btw whats wrong with artificial features. One of them is a resevoir so they have there own water , very usefull i would say. Where r u a member? (the truth pls)
