HTPC Picture to fill Projector Screen Size

    Okay, my HTPC:

    - Asus P5K motherboard
    - Asus HD3650 GPU
    - Vista Media Center

    Projector: Panasonic AX200

Okay, so here is where I need some help. When I watch Sky for example on the projector I can see a very faint 1 inch bar around the screen while projecting onto a wall. I assume if there was a screen being used I would not notice this.

Now when I watch a DVD via my HPTC, I can see the 1 inch bar around the screen, but then it also seems like there is another 1 inch bar inside the existing one which I don't seem to be able to fill out the the existing one.

Any ideas ? Hope I explained okay.

That projector is a 720p 16:9 model, isnt it? In that case, the optimum resolution is 1280x720.

I had a similar problem setting up my mac OSX-based HTPC. Unfortunetaly, the OS wouldnt allow me to switch to that resolution, so I had to download a third-party programme to do so. It's called SwitchResX, but I'm not sure it's available for Windows.

Yeah, I have it set to 1280x720. Desktop, and DVD playback via HTPC is the same Size. Whereas the Sky feed is around the same size as the blue screen I get from the PJ when no device is playing.

Is it just a case that the HTPC screen is smaller than Sky ?

Is the projector auto-adjusting the image size? Have a look in the menu of the projector and disable any such setting.

I'm using an Epson TW700, very similar to the Panny, and it always cropped/zoomed/resized automatically...

are you sure its not just the aspect ratio of the sources? Not all widescreen movies are in 16:9, many are in Anamorphic(1.85:1).

In cases like this, if you fill the screen on a 16:9 display, you will get a distorted image.

Ok, think I have it now, as I had my 20" monitor cloned with the PJ. There is an option in the ATI Control center for the GPU to apply different settings to both outputs. For the PJ I was able to 'scale' the image using overscan.

    Think I am sorted now ! :)

    Thanks for your inputs. :D
