DIY (HKC Alarm)

Hi. Quick question on Alarms. When wiring hkc shock sensors without reed switch. So I have 4 core going to each sensor. E.g. I have five shock sensors on the one circuit. Normally on one shock sensor you'd have eg red going out and black back for alarm and blue going out and yellow going back for tamper. So when wiring 5 sensors together. Say for alarm, do I goto the 1st screw for alarm with red and come out of the second screw with red and onto the 1st screw on the 2nd contact with red until last screw on the last contact. And then on the last contact and come back to the board with black.
And if so, do i have to connect the 2 black cables in each contact. Can I put them on a screw?
    OR
Goto the 1st screw with red and come out of the second screw of alarm with black and come out of the 1st screw of the 2nd contact with red and out of the 2nd screw with black and so on like this.
Could you please help me on this issue.
    Thank you!

    Hi Ben,

You are correct with the first option. Use the two reds on the alarm terminals and join the two blacks on a spare terminal or vice versa. Same for the tamper use the two blues on the tamper terminals and join the two yellows on a spare terminal or vice versa. In the sensor that is end of line, use red and black on the alarm terminals and blue and yellow on the tamper terminals.

It does'nt really matter whether you use red or black as long as all the red and blacks are in series. Thats the same for the blue and yellow. These circuits are not polarity concious.

Thanks derek_g34. Do you know if you use aritech shock contacts for a hkc panel, are they wired the same?

Thats correct. They all have two terminals for the alarm circuit and two terminals for the tamper circuit and an optional two terminals for the magnetic reed contact. If there is no reed in the sensor these terminals can be used to join a pair together. The only sensors to avoid are the Astec sensors as these have built in resistors for use with the Astec control panel only.

Thank you again. Can you help on wiring a digi modem text card. Do you have to bring a phone line from the master phone socket and then bring one to a single phone point somewhere else in the house. Also regarding the earth terminal. Do you bring a cable from the screw terminal to the earth terminal.
What is the best PIR to use with the HKC? I've heard that the HKC one is not that great.

    Hi Ben,

Basically you bring the incoming phone line to the communicator first and then from the communicator you return it to the phones. This means that when the system activates, whether intruder or panic alarm, the communicator takes priority and cuts off whoever may be on the line.

Just wire the earth terminal into the electrical earth. It helps the lightning arrestor on the communicator do its job if lightning comes down the phone line.

You're better off using a dual technology movement detector i.e. infra red/microwave combined. These are far less likely to false alarm. Honeywell would be one of the best and available in the majority of suppliers.

    Hi,

I have the old panel and I setup a GSM Dialler and everything was working fine until I changed the User codes and usernames. Now when I go to go into Dialler menu, it says the following: "Digi Modem Card not Present"

Can you remove it in the settings? If so, how do I re-add it? Do I disconnect it and re-add it? Any help would be grateful.

    Thanks,
    Ben.
