Hi all, i never ran for a club or competition before, although i was always interested in it while growing up but sadly i never did. Now i am 27, relatively fit with strong enough legs from all the cycling, 5-a-side soccer and sprinting i used to do years ago. Just wondering what the potential might be for me to try take up sprinting again at this stage in my life??as i would imagine at this age, i would not be as proficient as if i was 19 again. Now i would definately be interested in short-course running like 200m and below.

Had a look at a few websites and seen some clubs,i also assume they might have some sort of assessment of my ability? would it be worth my while to email them for info etc, not sure what to do about this really...:(

Also if i did decide to get into this, what would i expect to need in terms of equipment like running shoes, maybe association fees etc??

Thanks for your time reading this, appreciate it.

You are never too late. Where are you based as people here can make better recommendations as there are many clubs in Ireland and you might need to choose wisely to find one that suits what you want.

As regards equipment, pair of runners will be needed initially and after a while a pair of spikes which are usually cheaper than runners.

Sprinting is a little harder to get people and groups to train with but if in a club there will always be sprinters. As regards assesment, I'd say just get out and do it.

First step is to contact a club, many will let you meet up for a while without committing to a members fee. The members fee for a year will be from €50-€150 a year depending on the club and what they have to offer. At the lowest end a club may be just a GAA field while at the other end it will be an international standard track and gym facilities free of use.

Cheers for that bit of info. I'm in Dublin city centre but get on well with 2 runners from Tallaght AC in my college and i'm sure i could glean some info from them haha, actually i will ask one on bebo in a few mins :)

I've got some decent asics running shoes at home they could do until i got some spikes later on so that shouldn't be a problem.
