Ok, so I'm heading off on the hols on Friday and would like your opinions on suncreams. I usually go for a factor 20, as I have sallow skin and don't burn that easily and I like getting a bit of a tan. Also, has anyone tried the new Ambre Solaire gel spfs?? Any help would be great. :D

Gotta second that post, used that piz buin once a day in romania where i was outdoors all of the time and on sun hols last year and it works a treat..and generally i burn under a desklamp..cheaper than that p20 which stains clothes and causing premature aging apparently..

I would go with nivea moisturising sunspray. You can get it in really high factors if you have fair skin, its only tacky for a few minutes and the smell is nice :) doesn't smell as if your wearing suncream at least.

Forgot to say that the piz buin once a day smells de-lish!i tended to use it everyday on my face which prob is a big no no in the cosmetic world but i found for me it was a great base for make up once you left it twenty mins or so to dry in proper

I love Piz Buin, it smells gorgeous. I use their self tanning sunscreen called Tan Intensifier (comes in SPF 6,15&30 ).

Depends how close to the tropics/equator you're going as to how high an SPF
you need - regardless of how fair/sallow you are.

Which? in the UK did an in-depth analysis of most suncreams last month.
Google for the results, interesting reading.

I'd recommend p20, it lasts all day doesnt wash off and you get an unbelievable tan with it!
Ya can only get it in chemists(about 30euro)... its well worth it though because you never have to use that much so it lasts ages :D

Apart from that I'd go for piz buin tan intensifier.... gives you a great tan and I never burn with it!

That's interesting because the Consumer people released a report this morning that showed that some suncreams give a lower protection factor than they advertise.

Apparently the 3 worst were Piz Buin (said 15 but gave 14), Malibu (said 15 but gave 10ish) and Marks and Spencer (said 15 but gave 7!) Was very surprised at M&S actually!

I use Ambre Solaire mostly and I've always found it great. I'm a bit of an expert on suncream as I have a scar from skin grafts that burns easily so I need to use a high factor and have tried them all. P20 was good but all my clothes got badly stained so I stay away from that.

I used Soltan yesterday for the first time and it definitely worked as I got burnt where I didn't put it on as I'm an idiot.

My mother who is the suncream queen, has to wear it every day for medical reasons, swears by the loreal ones.says the nivea ones feel like it just sits on your skin, tinted ones make you look odly pale and patcy and just isnt a fan of the pizbuin one.

I recommend Boots Soltan suncream, as a person who has to wear factor 50 (factor 60 if they have it in stock) I don't think I've ever used a better suncream.

Someone recommended P20, I wouldn't go near the thing ever again, the reason for me having to wear factor 50/60 is because of P20.

My first holiday about 10 odd years ago, I had P20 on, 30 mins in the sun I couldn't move got out of the sun and my mam noticed I had been burnt to the colour of a tomatoe, for the rest of my holidays (13 days) I couldn't move from my apartment and literally crying when I had to move from one place to another. I had doctors and everything out, P20's excuse when my mam presumed to matter was that it was out-of-date which it wasn't but instead of keeping the bottle of it my mam throw it away on holidays.

I second not using P20. I got terrible prickly heat rash from using it as it forms a film over the skin and somehow traps in the heat causing the rash. (for me anyway and I don't have particularly sensitive skin)

Also, this is a reason not to use it as well. http://beaut.ie/blog/?p=2037

Never had a problem using Coppertone sunscreen, esp. the children's one. :) Lancaster, although a bit pricier, is very good as well. And their false tanning range is good also.

I used P20 on a few holidays and it gave me a lovely colour. Im very pale and susceptible to burn in most weather but went with p20 and found it great. brought some to Oz but my mum rang me half way thru my trip to insist i stop using it because it had no uva protection and caused premature ageing. so i moved to piz buin once a day which i find works well. one thing to point out to that person who burnt bad with p20..it is crucial you apply it at least an hour before you go outside,i am aware of someone who put it on and headed out bout twenty mins half hour later and burnt like a sausage. it says it on the bottle and i really advise it!

I did, I was about 5 or 6 so it took ages for me and my brother to be suncreamed.:D

I can imagine..and p20 has to be so meticulously applied! kids nightmare!

It's not like it was even a patch or two it was my whole body excluding my swimming shorts. Anytime I see P20 in a shop I cringe and when I see people buying it I feel like telling them not too.

I've used Parasol. It's like p20 but with the premature aging bit!

I think p20's problem is it only filters against one of the UVA and UVB rays. I can't remember which. Therefore it will stop you burning, but won't filter the other type.

+1, it's the only suncream I found will not sting my eyes. For the kids, I use Soltan sunstick on their faces.

I'm very fair and I've found piz buin, l'oreal and soltan all very good and you don't tend to burn once you have them on although I always wear a high (mid 20's - 30) factor.

On my face I wear 40 and this year I'm using LaRoche Posay which I like. It's for body so I use it on my face, neck and chest.

I also have sensitive skin and I've found all these products very good. Some other creams bring me out in spots and rashes.

I'm a fan of Piz Buin Sun Allergy range, as a person who suffers from desperate heat rash

Heard on the news the other day that Piz Buin scored lower than Ambre Solaire, Nivea and Soltan in tests.
