Automatically use your own artwork? Not that I know off. When I started using iTunes, I *think* it used some covers called 'Folder.jpg' in each album's folder as the cover or covers WMP had used.

If all else fails, highlight all tracks in the album (click the first track, hold shift, click the last) and right/secondary click on your selection. Pick 'Get Info', tick the box beside the artwork box to apply to all selected tracks. Drag your cover to this box (probably from your desktop) and hit OK/apply.

I was thinking there would be no application to do it alright.
Its just a pain when there are a load of scattered mp3 singles throughout the library without any cover art.

Well iTunes can do all albums with one command. I didn't mention this first as I was under the impression you wanted to use your own covers. To use it, however, you need to create an account (it's free) in iTunes.

Then do Advanced --> Get Album Artwork. It recurses through all your albums. It should get covers for most of your albums. It is somewhat fussy when it coms to the tags (meta info) you have on your files, so album names would want to match the name in the iTunes store or else it may not find any artwork for those albums.
