    I'm asking on behalf of a friend. I'm not familiar with this area.

    The question is:

    Determine which of these mics is the most sensitive:
    Mic A: -39dBV/Pa
    Mic B: -38dBu/Pa
    Mic C: 14mV/Pa

    So you have to convert B and C into dBV and compare.

    To convert C we did
    answer in dBV = 20log(0.014/1)
    where 1 is the reference voltage for V

    How do you convert B?

    dBu is generally defined as voltage referred to 0.775 volts rms (strange I know but it's from the rms voltage across 600 ohm resistor dissipating 1 mW).

    since 20 log10 (0.775) =~ -2.214

    So, using this you get:

    -38 dBu -> -40.214 dBV
