Adding extra channels to Freesat?

    Anyone know if FTA channels like Sky News and CNN can be added to one of those new Freesat boxes? Also what is the process like to actually watch one of these channels, is there an Extra Channels menu like Sky Digibox or how does it work?

    Some of the models have an add channels feature. I myself got hold of a standard Goodmans freesat box recently and it doesn't have an add channels feature.

    But I saw on an article that said that all boxes are required to support the adding of FTA channels and Alba group, makers of the Goodmans model are due to elease a s/w update that will enable manual tuning.

    So it seems its a matter of time before software updates will ensure that all freesat models can do this.

    By EU law it has to have it.
    You sure it's not an non-Freesat EPG option rather than "add channels". Re read manual and study menus. On Humax it's an alternate EPG setting.

    100% sure.. there is no add channels or alternative EPG option and the manual does not show any means of adding channels or even refer to an alternative EPG.

    As the article I linked to states, "The manual tune, which is currently held in an undisclosed hidden menu, allows access to hundreds of FTA channels presently not listed on the Freesat EPG (electronic programme guide). In accordance with European Union legislation, all receivers must allow the consumer to manually tune available FTA channels. At present only the Humax FOXSATHD allows this."

    ..so its supported but not yet shown to the user.

    Interestingly enough, a comment left on that freesat article had this to say..
    "Lets hope access of the FTA channels is smoother than the Humax way, it would be nice if all the channels could integrate into a single EPG rather than having 2 EPGs and changing between them."
