Ok I need some advise on this I have booked 2 seperate flights one from Dublin to Heathrow Termial 1 with BMI landing at 8:15 and the other with BA from Terminal 5 to San Francisco at 11:25. Do you think I will have enough time to get my bags from the BMI flight and then go to terminal 5.

Also does anyone here have any experince of Terminal 5? Has things improved?

Yes -you should have plenty of time. Check in online for your BA flight 24hrs before your BA flight and choose the best available seat.
If you are travelling in Economy go to www.seatguru.com to see what seat the exit door is on and pick any of them.
You just need your pnr reference number to check in online.
Do do that as it will put you ahead of most in getting a good seat.
You can print your own boarding pass then and when you get to T% - you go straight to the fast bag drop desk.
You can get a bus transfer or a train to T5 from T1.
Just ask in T1 when you arrive.

Yes T5 has improved a lot even though many more flights have transferred there in the last week.

Should be no problems regarding times. The shuttle bus runs every 5 miutes or so and hasn't realy been affected by the T5 problems (of which I haven't heard much about recently).

Go to http://www.heathrowairport.com/ and click on the big Flght Conections button and it'll give you the route and explain where you'll need to go through to get to T5

I doubt it. It always depends on the airlines and such. The OP is flying with BMI to the UK and BA to the US so he'll have to collect bags and then recheck them back in again. Had they been traveling with BA for both flights then I imagine that the bags would follow them to T5 automatically.

I don't know about T5, but heathrow must be the worst airport in the World from my experience over the years. I have to say i avoid using Heathrow wherever possible, and would rather connect via Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt or Schipol rather than undergo the stress, rudeness, bossiness and sheer inefficiency at Heathrow.

    Ah it's not that bad.
I go through LHR regularally every year.

I've yet to go to T5-I'll be doing that for the first time next month and am looking foward to it.
I've been in T1 4 or 5 times in the past few months and it's actually gone fairly quiet now since most of the BA flights have left it.

Just back at the OP.. Please DO online check in as at least you will have your seat and a decent one prior to arriving at T5
If your flight leaves at say 5pm on a tuesday, you can do it on the BA site anytime after 5pm on the monday.
Then all you will have to do is go to the bag drop desk at T% which is usually a shorter queue (if any) than the check in queue.

You won't be able to check in for your BA flight at the BMI desk in Dublin unless it's all on the one booking.
It is possible that your booking mixes a BA and BMI flight.
If thats was the case you would be in clover because you can do it all in Dublin including getting them to send your bags to BA.
Therfore you wont have to collect them in heathrow.

Yes BA and BMI do sometimes codeshare so worth looking into.

Nope imo, as he is coming in on bmi and going out BA, bmi part of Star Alliance, BA part of One World
He will be arriving at a busy time into Heathrow though he may well get in at 08:15 as it is bmi first plane out of Dub, so as long as he leaves Dub in time he will be ok.

At Heathrow expext to wait 15-20 mins for bags from bmi.
