Just saw the Pics and the after ageing pics on the photo thread.
Very nice I must say and its been on my shopping List of things to buy.
I was trying to decide to buy that or a Thompson first and of course the
    Luger.

I Kept putting off the buy for exactly the same issues you had with it.
Magazine/Stock and the cheap grips. May hold off and buy the GBB MP40.

P.S. How does the scope rail mount to the Dboys KAR98 ?

Hi Bullets. yeah, I was in the same boat myself :pac: 'Thompson or MP40......Thompson or MP40......hmmmm', I decided to go with the MP40 (obviously). Just felt the MP40 was a bit 'truer' to the original (even if the grips and sidepanel were cheap plastic), but the Thompson only has a metal upper reciever and plastic wood.....blahh :(

Its actually surprising how much the 'fake bake' make the side panels and grips look more substantial and higher quality. Theres a lot of scope with the AGM MP40 with regard to doing work on it and ageing, its relatively cheap, so its not gonna break the bank.

As for the KAR98, I robbed the rail and scope off my VSR10 :D. I just drilled three holes in the reciever and threaded them so that the rail could be added. I also pulled the barrel out of my VSR and popped it into the KAR (with a little bit of modding! :p) but thats for another thread! I will say though, the barrel in the KAR98 is a joke!!! Its of two pieces and the actual 'barrel' is only about 220mm long!! The second piece is the same lenght but over 7mm in diameter!!!! Hence the pitiful accuracy.

    God damn croppyboy

Thats the best fake bake job I've ever seen, bloody brilliant!

I've just done the worn varnish job on my ak74 mags, looks sh1t by comparison, I'll be retouching them some time in the future inspired by this ;)

For your information, most aegs leave 3,4 or 5 bbs unfired in the mag, as most have a standard follower to feed bbs, annoying sometimes yes, I much prefer when you can reload and not have bbs dropping out, feels better to pull out a properly empty mag I suppose.

Its interesting that they have a fake safety, how is the real steel made safe?
And it doesn't have a fire selector either I gather.

    Cheers Moto :)

I've often seen those 'orange' AK mags on TV and such, but never realised they were bakelitte, so to be honest I cant say what type of finsh they have, whether its a mottled look like I applied, or perhaps a mottled finish with just different shades of orange. Anyway, the process is real easy and worth the effort, a few battle scars make all the difference too to give it that 'been there, done that' look.

The real steel was made safe by putting the bolt up into the safety notch, the little cut out above the bolt slot, which of course wasnt a great safety as a jolt, or dropping it could knock it off safe. MP40's were known to fire automatically it dropped hard enough, not helped of course by the fact that they are full auto only :pac:

May be a different bakelite finish then, yeah the ak74 mags are bakelite, I'm not sure about the plum or black ones, but they aren't as cool anyway :D

I did a bit of a bakelite job in the pics section, far from perfect.

Nice job though, I'd love to see that thing at hrta some day.
