    Nice pics.

I was fortunate to go around HMS Invincible many years ago and even though they are only small carriers, they are still pretty impressive.

Isn't there a channel five documentary about Ark Royal at the moment?

Nice shots latchyco, thanks for sharing, do you have any from onboard her? Did she have any Seakings or Harriers on the deck or in the Hanger? I can only see some RN Lynx. Thanks anyway.

Glad to be able to post them Steyr .The ship was open to public from 10-30 till 4.00 so i went down at 1.30 just in time for the annoumcement that due to the large amount of public who showed up ,they had to stop the Q of people from boarding so unfortunetly i never got to go on board .The officer i spoke to said they were totaly unprepared for such large numbers but was looking foreard to returning again somtime in the future .Not sure about the other two you mention but only saw the Lynxs myself :)

I have to say I am very surprised to here this s the first time the Ark Royal has been on Merseyside as its one of the most historic ports in the world.

Not sure about helicoptors, but the Harriers usually only stay on board when out at sea, if they can get to a shore base then they will do so. (You know what these fly boys are like:D)

    That surprised me as well.

There is more info and pictures on the website http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/server/show/ConWebDoc.13023/changeNav/6568

It looks like the TV documentary is about Illustrious, not the Ark.

I think previous to this one going back to WW1 there were 4 other Ark Royals ,so more than likely they had visited Liverpool .

The previous one was the last proper Air Craft carrier in service with the RN. I went aboard once when I was very young but can't remember too much about it other than it was massive. My Uncle was one of the last crew nd there was many a tear shed when it was takenout of service. The BBC documentary, Sailing, was about that Ark Royal.
