    Hi everyone,

Currently looking to buy my first car. Having done months of research, Ive change my mind as many times as bertie ahern regarding what to get. Going to university, money isnt my greatest friend so my budget is 5000 max.

Came across a new model, 2004 reg MG ZR off a dealers with 50k on the clock for under 5k. Just wondering what your opinions are on the car? I know they used to be MG-Rover  but rover's since closed, and MG are re-established in China. I would presume that they (MG) would have made a huge effort to correct any reliability problems in the past during the re-design of the new model to regain customer support?

    Any opinions would be great!

    Cul.

The rights to rover have been bought by the Chinese, very different to Japan. However for less than 5k a lot of car for the money. Loads of people will post to tell you about head gasket trouble which is true, but talk to a mechanic on how to prevent this. check coolant level once a week. Make a low offer on this car as everthing is hard to shift at the moment, particularly Rovers. In summary these things need to be really cheap when buying, But there good on juice and quick enough.

Has it a FSH? If so, it sounds ok to me.

See links below for my 1st car. After alot of research at the time, I was happy that this was one of the best small cars to buy. I would consider it also...

    Heres some fine examples:

to be honest checking coolant level wont help youre head gasket if its going to fail
I like how they look though
I can see the appeal of them especially as a first car but if youre going to university reliability would be important
get something reasonably sporty too (youve got a healthy budget) as I tended to feel much better about spending quite a bit of money when I could look out and like what Im seeing :D
also make sure you get something you like and not just something functional
