I have a 15 mile run planned for tomorrow and I want to get used to taking the gels while running, they are 41g and give you 260 calories, so how many do you take during your long run 15-20 miles, and do you take them before your run aswell, I'm sure I would find out with trial and error but it would be nice to have some idea, let me know, cheers

Hey woddle, ask the lads over in Marathon/Triathlon this they will be much better able to answer, all I know about them is that they do the trick but are pretty rotten, you also need heaps of water with them.

You will need to carry water for the gels as they require about 200-300ml per gel.

For a 15mile run i would take 2 but personally i prefer taking a carb drink with me for runs longer than 90mins.

Personally I wouldn't touch them, hate them and find they mess up my stomach. What I use is instant carbo. You need to mix it with water. I use 150ml bottles that we use to give methadone out to carry mine. I find it the best but you have to find a way of carring it. For my long runs I use my civil defense belt which has load of pouches and if I'm still stuck I tape some to the camelbak. Doesn't suit everyone but either do the gels. Do you find you tolerate the gels well Woddle?
