I think Cinderella Man would be a better choice than Rocky as its actually a true story. Its also a brilliant film.

I find lots of "inspirational" movies pretty uninspiring and usually pretty cheesy. Some films have inspired me, but it is usually inspiration drawn for the quality of a particular actor's performance, or a particular sequence or piece of dialogue.

Most recently, the wes anderson short "Hotel Chevalier" was the inspiration for a song I wrote.

Films that are usually tagged "Inspirational" tend to leave me underwhelmed for the most part.

You had to rescue some charity workers? :)

I'd say Braveheart - "You can accomplish anything if you wear a skirt".

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - I bought a lot of "good stuff", packed it into my car and went for uncontrolled journey to Donegal :-)
Very inspiring, I must say. But no cops tried to chase me...

its funny when I think of Inspirational movies I always think of The Matrix.

When I first seen that movie it completely altered my way of thinking. It opened up a plethora of different ways of viewing the world and society, how most limits we imagine we have are self imposed and how by approaching a situation with the understanding that "there is no spoon" can give you the confidence to not let doubt or fear cripple your decisions.

It also made me choose computers and electronic engineering as the subject I'd study in college as I realized we're quickly leaving the elementary ages behind and entering a technology driven information age.

In what sense is a film inspirational? I would have thought for a film to be inspirational it would have to inspire the watcher to do something or change something in their life?

How did films like for example Shawshank, Schlinders list inspire people???

L31Mr0D has given a good example.

The Exorcist partly inspired me to get into film making.
