OK, well let me just say im seriously pissed off right now. I bought it on launch day and now its out of warranty i'm probably facing a bill of like 250. But hopefully you guys can rectify my problem and its simple.

Anyway, today, while just playing a game, my PS3 froze(which isn't the end of the world), but then, the real problem starts. The fan goes on heavy and doesn;t stop. When i try turn the Ps3 off by the touch button, and turn it back on after like 2 mins it just came on black screen and was outputting in 576p. This is odd coz i have a FULL HD tv and whenever i switch AV it tells me what input it is receiving, and usually the ps3 outputs 1080p(and it varies depending on games etc)

Then, after my controllers failing to sync after the restart and nothing still on the screen, i ejected the disk and tried to turn it off. I held my finger on the touch button for like 20 seconds and nothing....... tried this for ages and in the end just switched it off at the back. then tried turning it on again and nothing...... same thing.... black screen, no sound, no controller sync, and my tv still gets a 576p signal.

Things that prove the problem lies in the ps3 itself:
1> The HDMI is perfect as it works with my sky HD
2> The TV isn't at fault as i tried the above with the other HD TV in my house
3> Games can't be at fault coz even with nothing inserted the same things happens.

So, Please help me if you can, i apologise for this being long but i'm desperate.
I plan on ringing Gamestop(where i bought it) in the morning and see what they have to say?

If you hold down the power button on a ps3 when its restarting, you can set the graphics output back to default - try changing it back to 1080p output in the display settings...

For the unsynced controllers, connect them to the ps3 by usb cable, and they should re-sync again.

when turning the console on, keep your finger on the on/off button... even after it switches on. you force boot into the OS which should force it to start-up without any hitches.

before you do this, it might be worth unplugging the console. after you do this put your finger on the on/off button for a few seconds... seems a waste of time but it clears the memory out of the machine

Thanks to everyone for your replies so far, but still no luck. I unplugged, replugged, then held my finger down like described. When i hold it down i get the initial 'beep' of turning it on, followed by another beep a few seconds later. If i keep my finger down still, it turns off again. After this, still no luck. Then i tried it again by letting off my finger after teh second beep but still no luck.

Im still trying but any thoughts on it now???

Hold the on/off button when turning on your PS3 and when you hear the second beep, let go. The second beep is an indication that the PS3 is looking for an AV solution so make sure you have an AV cable connected from your PS3 to your TV. When you have that sorted you can then go about setting up your HDMI as you usually would.
