Sky EPG Limitations

I posted here a while back about the annoyances of the Sky EPG and channel listings compared to a FreeView box....the fact that you can't delete the rubbish or unsubscribed channels out of your way, and the fact that the "Other" channels don't appear within it.

I got a call from a Sky rep today - just a follow up on the new subscription, wanting to know how I found things - and when I mentioned the above she said that they haven't had many complaints about this.

I said that everything else was top-notch, but that the above was VERY annoying.

C'mon, people! If no-one points out the annoyances then they'll NEVER put in the effort to give a consumer-oriented service.

Let' start asking for the basic, sensible stuff any time Sky reps ring:

    1) The ability to hide/remove God TV, Fashion TV, Gay TV, Wedding TV and all those that I'll never watch (which will probably include E4 for the next few months, too)
    2) The ability to hide the unsubscribed ones
    3) The ability to include Other Channels, AT LEAST in the Favourites

If enough people point out the annoying limitations, maybe they'll do something about them......

Thats all well and good, but not going to happen for a number of reasons.....

These channel have paid big bucks to be there and to be seen, big bucks that Sky wont relinquish at any cost.
    2) The ability to hide the unsubscribed ones

This is free advertisment for them pretty much and can be an enticement to subscribe, some of the channels (eg. Setanta) have some in-the-clear build-up programmes and other temptations to subscribe.
    3) The ability to include Other Channels, AT LEAST in the Favourites

Many broadcasters on the EPG would throw a fit at this & TV3 immediately springs to mind, IIRC they threw a wobbley when ITV where just thinking about broadcasting FTA. TBH if Sky had their way they would probably try to block access to the other channels altogether, but are not allowed to.

This is Sky we're talking about, yeah? We could be waiting.

I hate the fact that you can only get the detailed synopsis of a show if you are on that channel (the "i" button). Sometimes while watching a show, I scroll other channels to see what else is on.
If I see a show on another channel that interests me, I cannot use the "i" button unless I actually select that channel. VERY annoying.

Memory limitation - won't be possible to work around this on the older boxes and possibly not even on newer ones. Would also make the 'searching for listings' at bootup take even longer if you power your box off!

I'm not disputing any of the above, and in fact I suspected most of it, but the fact is that it's annoying that it's just accepted - if you're paying for a service then surely it should be at least in some way aimed at consumer needs ?

But if no-one points it out, then they can claim ignorance.

The new Sky HD EPG (Launching in August) will have this. :)

    A "Previous Channel" button.
Add that to the list when they next call:)
