I know in some stores in america you can buy mac eyeshadow pans instead of buying the pot of eyeshadow and it is cheaper...can you get these eyeshadow pans in BTs?or do they only come in pots?TIA

Brown Thomas Dublin do them, just ask for the pan instead of the normal one. Limited editions don't tend to come in pan format. They also sell the palettes, again, just ask. They don't do them in BT2 Dundrum though.

Most of mine are in pan format. Very handy!

Ask at the counter. You might have to buy a palette initially, but it's better in the long run.

BTW, as an aside, if you have 6 empty pots of MAC eyeshadow, you can take them in to a counter and exchange them for a new eyeshadow (or at least, that used to be the case)

You can depot your eyeshadows and put the pans into the palettes yourself, then use the empties for Back2Mac. 6 empty containers = 1 free lipstick.

Anyone know if MAC in Galway takes depotted e/s cases for B2M? I know there's been some issues in other places lately about stores only taking the case with the pan intact.

You can get both 4 pan and 15 pan for eyeshadow, and 6 pan for blush. 4 pan is handier if you want to carry it in your handbag, but I find the 15 pan one better cos I can keep my eyeshaodws together. Or you could get one of each, store them in the 15 pan, and put them in the 4 pan one when you want to travel.

I'm not sure how much the pans are, but I know they're a couple of euro less than the eyeshadow in the case.

The eyeshadow and blusher refills/pans can only be bought in Pro MAC stores. The only one in Ireland is BT's., Grafton Street and then there's the one in Soho, London. Other stuff like Face and Body is a Pro product and can only be bought there as well.

Last time I bought a refill I think it was about 9/10 euro but prices have gone up since then.

Much better idea as it saves on packaging and if you buy a lot of eyeshadows the 15 palette is great. No more looking for that certain eyeshadow and easy to transport!

what do you mean by a Pro store

MAC, which stands for Makeup Artist Cosmetics, was first set up for make-up artists and by only word of mouth (they don't advertise) became popular with the average lady looking for good make-up. So as well as having the usual products, they have PRO products which are mainly for the use of professional make-up artists. So things like the refills and palettes were first designed for the professional make-up artist who needed a portable palette or there's body paint, full coverage for film/tv work, face and body also.

So in most large cities around the world, they have a MAC PRO store and these pro products are only available there. That's why if you go into Dundrum or BT's Cork or Dublin Airport there might be a certain product you want but can't get. Also, with the smaller stores, they can't stock the full range of eyeshadows, lipsticks, foundations.

It's not a full pro store though is it? I don't think it has the full range.

As far as I'm aware it is a Pro store! It's the only one in Ireland that accepts the Pro discount card. They don't sell the cases and brush rolls/belts (I think) but it has most of the Pro make-up. Wouldn't have the mad stuff they sell in Soho.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I've been to the one in Soho and they definitely had extra stuff there.

Been to Pro stores in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia and Soho beats them all on the amount of products they stock. Well it is London, darhling! :)

can you buy pans in bt's galway?

Brown Thomas accept pro discounts but only has maybe a handful, if even, of Pro products. Compared to Soho that have all products that come in Pro.
No BT2's do pallets or pans as you call them. Only Brown Thomas Grafton Street.

    You're right. It's not.

The Grafton Street store is a pro account but not a pro store meaning they're allowed to accept Pro membership cards and sell pro product but only particular products. Stores in Melbourne (Yarra), Sydney (Paddington), Brisbane (Milton) and London (Soho) are designated Pro stores with the full range available A-Z.

Agreed, while the Soho store is significantly larger (as is the population of London compared to a much smaller Australia), you may well note that there are products that are regional - ie. only available in the UK and only available in Australia etc.

And then there are stores only accessible to people employed by the Estee Lauder group (EL owns MAC) which are different again.

Mind you, if it's only palettes, mixing mediums, brushes, adhesives and glycerin sprays etc that you're after, they're all available at good art stores and for half the price. ;)
