Weathering/Ageing.....

Right so since I bought the Dboys KAR-98 its been annoying me that
the colour was off and it looked too new/fake looking.

    As seen here:
    http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w70/bullets_ie/airsoft/Dboys_kar98/

Today after looking at one of the WWII airsoft sites I decided since I
was doing nothing better I would strip it sand the wood a little, add a few
dents, Rub a brillo pad over the metal to wear a bit of the paint off of it and
    re-oil it.

Never done it before and barely sanded the wood but I think it looks a
bit better now than it did.

I took a bit of sand paper and sanding block to the wood to strip
back the finish that was on the wood, I did not sand it back too much.

I added a bit of wear and tear by scraping and adding a few dents into the wood.

After that I mixed up some black & brown acrylic paints and mixed in a small
bit of matt varnish and made up a wash out of it. This was brushed onto the
wood and then wiped off with a wet cloth. The Dirty wash was left
it the recesses and the scratches of the wood. After it dried I sprayed gun oil
over the wood and rubbed it in with a cloth.
I ideally needed linseed oil for this job but did not have any.
I did not add any coloring back into the wood
as it still had a bit left and I had not fully sanded it.

I did not have any wire wool so I just took a brillo pad from under the sink and
rubbed it on some of the raised surfaces of the Metal work where I thought
might be worn in real life. Thankfully the paint rubbed away fine and did
not chip. I left this try and sprayed it totally with oill.
(I used gun oil and not Silicone as there was no rubber/plastic to worry about)

Putting the Gun back together was fine apart from the front screw for the
magazine/trigger guard area. It was a bitch to line up after you put the
action back into the stock and it took several attempts to get it right.
