Piece of sh*t - PS3!!!

I first got my PS3 from smyths at xmas. That one broke (didn’t recognize disks being inserted) so I brought it back to smyths In Tallaght to be greeted by unhelpful morons. It took over three weeks to get a replacement and two months later here I am with another faulty one this time ‘the hard disk system is corrupted’.

Rang Sony – no help
So im faced with having to bring back this unreliable piece of junk back to the retards in smyths to order me yet another one. 60 gb replacement will take a month to come in and I will lose all my data!!! And I was on the last levels of GTA IV!!

I hate this console so much

Anyone else have these problems??!

My girlfriend went through almost the exact same scenario. Got it at Xmas, stopped reading discs a few weeks after, brought it back to Smyths and they exchanged it for a new one straight away.

Few weeks after that she got that 'Hard Drive Corrupt' thing. Didnt know what to do about it as it wanted to delete everything on the hard drive, finally decided just to let it do it. Afterwards it just started up with everything still there , nothing deleted.

If its the same error then you might get away with it....or you might not...who knows!

Im willing to delete everything just to get it working again but the problem is that even when I click ‘restore’ the systems loads then restarts with the same message…

I said to the guy from Sony over the phone that Its an un reliable piece of crap and the phone mysteriously went dead.
They aren’t any help and im not looking forward to going over to smyths with it later.

I’m so disappointed with this – my commodore 64 was more reliable than this and that’s saying something!!

Courtesy, young one. When dealing with customer services, remember that these people hate their jobs - don't make it even harder for them.

I persume they would give you a 40gb version there and then ? but you would prefer a 60gb. Friend of mine is on his 3rd, and after his first 60gb died he just got a 40gb and gamestop refunded the difference.

Ahh the C64, great machine, have to say mine still works, have it since 1992.

Because people handle calls from the public does not mean they have to listen to your ****. Have some manners when you call next time.

Manners? will you pull your head out of your arse! i spent nearly 700 euros on a machine that has broken twice in 6 months.
this guy on the phone wasnt being helpful when i called and kept saying 'oh your unlucky' - im sorry but luck shouldnt be a factor when you buy something that 'well built' and expensive.

it was nothing personal towards him saying that the machine was a heap of crap and he knew that. if i was in his job and heard that story i'd agree with the customer.

dont be such a hero

My shiny badge says I am a hero so it is hard not to be. Please do not talk about manners after you ask me to pull my head from my arse.

+1

Did the guy on the phone personally break your machine.....twice? no he just happened to answer the phone to you....and yes customer service people are given guidelines as to when it's ok to hang up on someone....he obviously felt that you crossed those lines.....So stop moaning and bring it back to smiths thats what you should do...not hassle customer service agents

I didnt speak about manners you did??

You obviously have no notion of how frustrating these problems can be especially when there is no tech support out there.

Save you nice guy crap for someone else if your not going to post anything relevant to this thread.

I know they're not paid to listen to cr@p, but has anyone here had a bad experience with a call centre? it's possibly the most fustrating thing in the world - "can I speak to someone more senior", then they put you on hold for an eternity. So so frustrating. I can imagine what the op was feeling when the phone went dead - no doubt he was hung up on. No doubt at all in my mind.

the guy from sony is probably fielding calls for a load of different companies, and has a queue on his computer the length of your arm. the moment you start mouthing off like that you should absolutely be hung up on. it's not his fault the machine's broke. he has a job to do - and it has nothing to do with listening to your crap.
this guy on the phone wasnt being helpful when i called and kept saying 'oh your unlucky' - im sorry but luck shouldnt be a factor when you buy something that 'well built' and expensive.

fact is, you are unlucky. i've gone through 4 xbox360's and 2 ps2's in my console-gaming lifetime. my ps3 is probably as reliable as any reliable piece of machinery i've ever owned. the fact that the call center guy saying you're unlucky provoked such a ridiculous reaction from you tells me he was right to just give up on you.
if i was in his job and heard that story i'd agree with the customer.

if you were in his job you would hang up. don't lie to yourself and say after 60 calls in a day, with pressure to resolve issues in order to make extra money you'd sit there and listen to someone mouthing off about something you have no power over.

of course he was. i work in a company with a call center employed to handle its customer service issues. literally 70% of calls can be resolved within 60seconds because most people are idiots who didn't read the manual - did something wrong, etc. but these issues don't get resolved in 60 seconds because people mouth off, bitch, moan and complain as if the guy on the other end of the line engineered their product to fail just for them. these guys get paid bonus based entirely on solving enough issues each day... so if someone gets mouthy, they'll just hang up on you and move on to someone a bit more understanding.

the ps3 is way more reliable than the xbox 360

i got a ps3 from USA the week it came out there and a yr later

my ps3 is working perfectly

so piece of sh*t =nope

just bad luck

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭Sean Quagmire

How was I mouthing off?? I made one comment that is completely true to me. I said it in a non-aggressive manner towards a guy who simply hadn’t a clue about the problem. He was taking details off me and the phone cut off when he was talking so if he hung up and made it look like a bad connection he is a spa.

At this stage some of you posters are getting way off topic.
Don’t pretend like you have never just got fed up with someone and said what you felt.

Trying to impress each other on here by picking on what I said to the guy. Get a life

Another example of people using the "postal syndrome" approach to someone on the other end of the line. Its clever, productive, and always encourages people on the other line to help you out :D If the machine breaks bring it back to where you got it,

Or ring up, be polite, ask them how they are getting on, pain in the face being in work, bit of banter, that way they are more inclined to help you out and go a little further than usual,

As for the hero comment, your the one shouting down the phone in a I am the most important person in the world and you owe me bacause I pay your wages and am a hero fashion,

My ps3 works fine but try google the problem. You'd be surprised you might find a fix. Otherwise bring it back and try again.

Shouting down the phone?
You clearly haven’t read my post so I won’t respond to your retarded comments

but, isn't that what the call center guy is paid for? it's his job to listent to frustrations/concerns etc - why should he quit once something gets tough? lets not kid ourselves here, the impression most of the ppl i know who have had to deal with a call center is one of dissatisifaction. there's a stigma attached to it, and rightly so imo. the only positive call centre exp i've has is with a certain 24hr banking help line. every single other one has been a mess, sounded like the peron on the other line was not interested/or in some more hilarious circumstances too nervous to answer my query - and I'm a pretty mild mannered person. i've never lost my cool with anyone on the phone, but then again, I've never had to look for a resolution to a problem that had cost me appro 500EUR (or whatever a PS3 costs).

Hi mate I have googled it – apparently it’s very common. The consol needs replacing. That’s all I wanted to hear on the technical genius on the phone

call center people are there to resolve issues and provide customer service. if you get aggressive, annoying and mouthy to them their job doesn't say they can't hang up and move on to someone more interested in getting help. people who are annoyed delay the process of fixing your issues.

if you're courteous then you'll be rewarded.

absolutely - didn't mean to come across that my point was that call centre staff deserve to be shouted at, I just think as customer service goes, and in certain circumstances, it is within their remit to attempt to placate the customer.

Sorry to here about your problem OP ,I had my ps3 fail on me aswell. It didn't bother me as much because hmv where very good to deal with.
Your problem seems to be because of smyths ,maybe write an email to the manager of the store and arrange to pick up a new system.

Aside from paying the 250 euros to replace my 60gb ps3,my experience with the sony call centre was a positive one.

Indeed, cause not all call centre staff will stay on the phone like this guy did.
