Your favourite thing about being European

I'm very proud to be Irish and will always consider myself paddy first and foremost but I really enjoy the added benefit of being European. There's so much to love but my top 3 would have to be the Euro, the Euro passport and the European medical insurance card (formerly E111).

It's hard to pick just one but I'll have to go with the EU passport, it makes traveling so easy. I love the "EU only" line at airports. Whizzing along while everyone else spends the evening standing still.

I get that too! I love my Irishness when I am abroad.

That said there is a sense of acceptance that seems to come with being European. Probably because of all those wars fought on our turf.

Being so close to all these different countries and cultures. A short trip away to learn another language and way of thinking.

Oh and French/ Italian wimmins are teh hawt :D

I have to say, though, the cheek of them in Heathrow Airport.
I went to the International Flight security gate, and the guy there told me, that for flights to Ireland, I have to go to the Domestic Flights area.
I said "The Republic of Ireland", to which he replied
"Yes, that's part of the UK, so you have to go the Domestic flights area."
So, I spoke to another guy, and yes, Ireland is not classed as part of the UK, with regards to security desks in Heathrow Airport.

The sickening thing about the Euro is seeing just how expensive this country is compared to others in Europe. The travel is fantastic though.

We get paid under a nice tax rate on higher wages then other countries in most of the EU and then we get to go to their countries & buy stuff way cheaper! Yes!

Same as with being Irish. Everyone knows the Irish though and they love us to. I always paddy it up when abroad. I've seen many a frown turn upside down when I explain I'm Irish not American/English.

    Not being a thick American.

    Brilliant, good work.

To the people giving out about how much we are getting ripped off. In the countries where stuff is so much cheaper generally the wages are less to no?

So when comparing countries you shouldn't be looking at prices you should instead be looking at cost of living, and you generally cant make a comparision until you have lived and worked in these countries instead of bring over your big fat wages checks and comparing on holidays.

I would go with the passport but also the Euro so the banks cant make any more money off me.

You know most of the responses here haven't been about being European but more being a member of the EU/EEA.

My favourite thing about being a member of the EU would definitely be the passport, whereas my favourite thing about being European would be the multiculturalism that exists in this continent based on such diverse social and political histories and contemporary attitudes.

    Plus:
The proximity of many different countries within a relatively small area.

    Minus:
Living on the same continent as Germans.

Maybe if you stopped getting so worked up about it they'd stop taking the p*ss?

Laughing at the whining British tourists going on about the Sterling/Euro exchange rate. They thought that they were being clever not joining the Euro (blows raspberry):D

Semi-coherent socialism, the lack of wars and natural disasters and the general cushtiness of living in this sheltered part of the planet. All the old buildings and the variety of the scenery is nice too. Plus we get to have a meaningful 16-nation football tournament just amongst ourselves (ourselves not actually including Ireland though, unfortunately).
